Best leggings?

Hello, I've been lurking here a bit but it's took a bit of courage to write this message.

Over the last year I've lost just over 6st and gone from a size 18/20-6/8. I'm stuck in a rut with how I dress and I still see myself how I used to look which is holding me back.

It's a massive step (pathetic I know) but I've brought a shortish dress and need some leggings to go under them. My mum said I look good with just bare legs but I like the security.

I'm used to wearing baggy jeans and huge jumpers/hoodies so I'm clueless. I've got a party to go to on Saturday so I can't really order online.

Anyway I want some good quality, black leggings and I have sainsburys, asda, dorothy perkins, new look and peacocks close. So what ones are the best?

Thanks for reading!

Congrats Katy! You must be so chuffed.. I hope you come around to enjoying dressing your new self!

For me- Boden leggings. I have a discount code in the post pile somewhere if you'd like it..

M&s leggings are nice, good material, as are debenhams. What kind of dresses have you bought to go with them?

MrsLundyBancroft · 22/05/2014 00:35

Of the shops you have close by, for me it would be Sainsbos. They do a good luxury legging with a wide flat waistband. Good thickness so no showing through. Iirc they're about a tenner. I wear those ones all the time. Even better, its 25% off at the mo.

Massive congrats on your weight loss btw.Grin

Hello! Congratulations! How did you do it?!

Firstly, as someone who is a bit bigger than the size you started at and who lives in leggings because they grow with you(Blush ) if your Mum thought the dress looked nice with bare legs then what about tights? I think they look more slinky... or is too hot and thats why not?!

Anyway, I wear loads of new look leggings and think they are fab, last ages. But ive seen loads of people on here absolutely rave about the sainsburys one so they might be worth checking out. People said they come up big so don't be tempted to go for a bigger size but they are great quality apparently

Have a wonderful time in the new dress Grin

I have recently bought a pair of cropped jeggins (sp) from Matalan for £6 & they are superb quality & extremely comfy , I'd definitely recommend them

Thanks all, I'll go and have a look :). What I really need is someone to take me out and find me stuff to wear as I have no idea what suits me or any idea about fashion. I'm 5'4, 33,24,34, very pale with mouseyish hair and brown eyes, so any advise welcome :).

I'm a single mum and instead of binge eating when my son was in bed I cut out all the crap and started doing exercise dvds and just put the music channel/radio on and danced around for a couple of hours a night. Plus I ditched the bus and started walking everywhere.

I remember how annoying tights were and I'll be feeling self conscious enough without having to keep pulling tights up. Plus leggings will cover up how pale I am, they don't call me milk bottle for nothing!

I can't find a link to the dress but it's a fit and flare one that's about mid thigh in length and has a big bright floral pattern. It looks better in than it sounds, which is something considering I've only wore a dress twice since I was about 10.

Well done Katy! I bought some of the Sainsburys ones for £10 and they are really good but have read on here that the two for £10 are not so good. I have also tried M and S and like the Sainsbury ones better although very hard to find at my branch.

I feel like you (although a lot older) and want to change my image LOL but although I wear the leggings it is only around the house and need to pluck up the courage to wear them out, I feel my legs above the knee are too chunky even with long tops/dresses.

I would like to try more summer dresses with 3/4 length/capri leggings, maybe even in white if it was a pastel dress but still thinking about that!

MrsLundyBancroft · 22/05/2014 09:23

Oh yes, that's it kitty - the individual pairs for £10 are the bizz. The two pairs for £10 are like everywhere else and very thin. Those are the ones I buy for pj leggings. The thicker ones are really very good.

cjdamoo · 22/05/2014 09:24

If your after something a bit special check out blackmilkclothing

SuperFlyHigh · 22/05/2014 11:27

Top Shop do nice ones.

but for a party I'd do nice tights really or the bare legs

WildCherryBlossom · 22/05/2014 11:42

Huge congratulations on losing so much. From your list I have had Sainsbury's leggings. Pretty good. But my absolute favourite black leggings are from Gap (if you happen to have one nearby?) Enjoy the party!

showtunesgirl · 22/05/2014 11:47

Wallis' High Waist Leggings are the best ones I've found.
