Can I have some handbag recommendations please?

I need a new everyday bag. I always buy High St ones, which are fine but don't seem to last long before a strap breaks. I need something mid-size; not tiny nor huge.

But mainly, it needs to be strong. I have never ventured into the world of expensive bags but am beginning to wonder whether they last longer than the sort of thing one buys on the High St?

Can anyone please enlighten me?

Tardis like large or lady like small?

Leather or not?

I need a tardis. My fave is Kiplings Defea, Or a cath kidston saddle bag. I'm not a label person but these do the job and last better than the " swakly swans" and sinilar unbranded oilcloth satchels from amazon I've had.

Oh and a real leather satchel is a treat!

Never yet bought a leather handbag where the strap broke! I've just bought a lovely one from House of Fraser www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Linea+Weekend+Holly+hobo+bag/188990620,default,pd.html .. in the navy colour though. Very comfy to wear and plenty of room inside. I only paid £83 for my one though. You could try having a look in TKMaxx too.

Thank you! I don't need a tardis style one really, I only tend to carry a minimum of stuff. But ladylike small would be too small, and I'm not ladylike either :)

I like the idea of a leather satchel, very much. Will have a browse online. Mrssmooth, That's a lovely bag.

I had recently posted a discount code to this website but not sure if it's still working but I can recommend LYDC, do some really nice handbags, free UK delivery,as you have said you like leather satchel style, they have some satchel bags, relatively inexpensive as well but good quality,. www.lydc.co.uk/categories/Handbags/Satchel-Bags/

hope you find a bag :) I'm just trying to pick one out for my holiday!

I love peony and moore bags, leather lovely and lasted ages.. none broken?!?

I also like russell & bromley for bags & Coach (£££)..

Whats your budget and style? I think the old adage you get what you pay for applies to leather bags, esp as so many are made in far east now & are just crap quality..

I agree madam - I have just bought Phoebe as the bags I bought from them before have lasted so well -

Thank you all for the links and suggestions. I spent yesterday evening browsing satchels online, and this morning I ordered one of these little beauties.

It's more than I would ordinarily spend but I'm hoping it'll last for years.

As for style...I don't think I really have a style :S I'm a bit hopeless with coordinating stuff, and not at all adventurous. Winter uniform is jeans with long-sleeved tops/cardis or leggings with tunics/long tops. And boots. In the summer, I wear shortish dresses or shorts and vests with Birkenstocks. So definitely casual/lazy/possibly mumsy!
