Evening dress help!

TheTravellingLemon · 19/05/2014 08:03

I am going to a party in a couple of weeks and urgently need help! I used to be a size 10, but since having DS, I'm now a 14. I'm not used to being this size, so I don't know what will suit me.

I'm about 5' 6" and am looking for a floor length dress and post breastfeeding boobs need a bra so no skimpy top halves!!

I don't want to wear a floral maxi dress - I'm looking for a proper evening dress, maybe navy but don't mind. Budget about £150

TIA

What sort of shape are you, what would you say are your problem areas and good bits?

TheTravellingLemon · 19/05/2014 12:04

I am curvy with a gigantic bum! It's hard to say about problems bit because I pretty much hate all of me at the moment Sad.

Just been shopping with no luck unfortunately!

Where did you shop? I've been shopping for a prom dress for DD recently and there were lots of dresses there which I'm sure you'd look great in. The best one was a place better known for hiring out men's tuxedos and formal wear. Also bridal boutiques have a good selection.

TheTravellingLemon · 19/05/2014 12:23

I just popped into TK Maxx and Debenhams as I had a grumpy DS with me.

Maybe I could try a bridal wear shop, don't want to look like a bridesmaid though, or worse, a bride!!!

House of Fraser, ignore the website and see what your local branch has.

I'm a 16 and they had a choice of several.

Debenham's is worth a look, but it can be a bit teen bridesmaid/prom market.

Nocomet · 19/05/2014 12:30

A bridesmaids dress is only an evening dress, with a bow or a flower and demure pearls, rather than some diatomite trim and some sparkly jewellery.

Given all senior schools and many sixth forms have proms/balls and universities do too, I'm sure a bridal shop can manage either if there are ££ in it.

A little bump for the evening traffic. Links welcome!

Damsel In a dress blue but over budget

V flattering Biba dress

You could always bling the Biba dress upp with lots of Diamante

TheTravellingLemon · 19/05/2014 20:02

I like the biba one, but it raises the bra issue. I'm a DD cup, so can't go braless!

Biba dress is gorgeous.

This might be worth a look too. I have a smaller cup size (b pre mn sizing intervention thread, d post intervention) and I can never fill the front of a km dress.

smellylittleorange · 19/05/2014 20:22

this is a bit boring but you could bling it up..

TheTravellingLemon · 19/05/2014 20:29

Ha ha! I've never been brave enough to venture onto those intervention threads. I dread to think what they'd make of my ginormous bazookas!

Slightly over budget but very pretty?

Koothrapanties · 19/05/2014 20:32

It's strapless but you could wear a strapless bra, or a bolero to cover straps?

Bluestocking · 19/05/2014 20:39

OMG, how much photoshop has the photo of that Luna one been subjected to? There has never been a human being who is that shape.

Koothrapanties · 19/05/2014 20:43

Maybe that human Barbie nut job, but nobody I have ever met blue!

Bluestocking · 19/05/2014 20:44

It's a worry! It would be more helpful to see what the dress looks like on a normal size woman - even if she was 5'10" and a soze ten!

Koothrapanties · 19/05/2014 20:46

If you zoom in on the pic, you can actually see on the left side where it has been meddled with!

TheTravellingLemon · 19/05/2014 20:55

Nobody is that shape! Certainly not me. Would be good if, when you select the size, it showed you what the dress would look like on a person of that size. But I guess if they did that, I'd never buy anything! Grin

I like the Coast dress, would definitely have to try it with a strapless bra though.
