polyester everywhere

I am 40 and trying to update my wardrobe. I want some clothes in material other than polyester but that's about all the high street offers . Where can I get clothes made of quality material?

I think you have to look around in lots of places. Some man-made fibres are quite good, but cheap polyester just looks terrible and you are right, the shops are full of it.

I shops at lots of different places including whistles, hobbs, jigsaw, toast, uniqlo, zara, j crew, cos.

Actually, I often get nice things from a local charity shop, but I have noticed that it's always full of polyester dresses from shops like primark and asos, often brand new looking. I think a lot of people buy them, wear them once or twice and then realise how terrible they look.

You are probably right. It seems to extend to expensive clothes as well. I just went on shop at Anna and a £300 dress was 100% polyester Shock

Whistles looks promising, thank you.

I was shopping for a new top for a night out the other day a- polyester central. It was all just hideous - and expensively hideous too. The only shop local to me that seemed to have good quality stuff was Joules and that's all so damn twee.

I wanted a foxy top not a navy gilet or floral wellies. I can offer empathy if not actual advice.

Whistles is polyester central. Would second jigsaw. What are you looking for?

Wooodpecker · 18/05/2014 21:28

I saw quite a few bits and pieces on the Whistles site. I want cotton tops and dresses for the summer. Think school run and work. I am trying to be stylish as I am not right now Hmm

I would second Cos. They actually use a lot of natural fibres.

We don't have Whistles here (Australia), but I have looked at a few of their dresses on asos.com. They look lovely, until you see that they're charging $330+ for 100% polyester! :O

The polyester thing makes me really irritated across the board, actually. When I'm shopping online, the first thing I do is look at the material. If it's 100% sweaty nasty poly, they're taking the piss.

It's very hard to find natural fibres, but I have picked up quite a few things in the sales online (mostly asos and shopbop) in pure silk, cotton and wool. Much nicer. I don't know any particular brands that consistently avoid poly, though, I'm afraid.

Thank you. I have never heard of shopbop so will look.

wasabipeanut I don't know what you mean Joules have loads of foxy tops

There's a lot of 100% cotton and silk in tkmaxx. Obviously being tkmaxx it takes a good rummage, but the gems are in there. I keep an eye the website every few days and have been very lucky so far.
