Help me accessorise this dress

Have bought this for my 40th birthday party. Am thinking high peep toes or maybe wedges, a bolero/shrug & a big flower in my hair (thinking black is best or is this boring?)

Anyway, will this work or am I totally clueless?

I think that sounds lovely but I wonder if something other than black might be more interesting. How about a dark purple shrug and a red and purple flower?

I absolutely love the dress, it's gorgeous. I also like Justinepants suggesting of dark purple with matching flower. I think that would look stunning, where black might just look a little flat. Enjoy your birthday!

This is sweet.

Gorgeous dress!

Heels good, wedges might be too casual. Black is a little conservative- explore other bright colours.

And have a lovely time!

Look, floral shoes:

Malaya apparently.

Irregular Choice

Thanks for the suggestions. Like the idea of dark purple. But I've fallen in love with these shoes but am now worried black is too safe & red on red might be too much.

I think red dress and red shoes would look fab and they are great shoes. Rather than black, why don't you go for cream? You could have a vintage beaded cardigan, something like this and have something sparkly in your hair.

Or have red dress, red shoes, purple shrug and multicoloured hair accessory.

Interesting ideas coming. I've been conditioned to think if your outfit is one colour all your accessories should be one colour & match (child of the 80s?) I genuinely hadn't considered mix & match!
