Dress for Teacher going to Prom

S&B gurus, I would be grateful for some advice.

I'm a secondary school teacher and am going to my Year 11's prom in early July. Lots of teachers are going and some are planning to wear maxi dresses. It's quite a glamorous school in terms of what staff wear to work, so I think the prom will be even more so.

It's the first 'social' event I'm going to at this school, so I'd like to look really good. I could probably justify spending up to £80 on a dress, and I have heels (and can walk in them).

Obviously, I'm a member of staff, so it has to be fairly modest, and definitely not 'prom-dress' style.

Any ideas?

Tell us about the shoes you have - that's vital or I'll link wrong stuff Wink

Valdeeves · 16/05/2014 21:03

What shape are you?

Thurlow · 16/05/2014 21:06

What kind of shape do you have in mind? Do you want maxi as well, or cocktail?

MrsLettuce · 16/05/2014 21:06

over budget but lovely
red?
lovely shade of teal but would maybe too informal?

What's your colouring?

YellowStripe · 16/05/2014 21:07

Mine have both been from Tk Maxx online for school proms.

Nice evening maxis in Debenhams, for about that kind of price. Bought DD2s prim dress there last year.

Or trawl some charity shops - you don't want to spend too much on a dress you'll wear once a year.

Hiring is always an option too.

I have black pumps, nude pumps or silver strappy heels that I tend to wear for a night out. I'm 5 foot 5, size 12 and a bit busty. I'm also fair and blonde.

That pink Mango dress is lovely MrsLettuce.

Oh, and I normally wear knee length for work, so a maxi dress might be nice.

I really, really, really love that pink mango dress.

Very bargainous, black, simple-but-wow dress
similar but different At that price you could buy the size larger, have it altered to fit to perfection and still be in budget

I love the second one MrsLettuce, and I think I might actually fit into the small having had a look at their measurements.

Such a bargain! You are officially amazing (and a guru). Off to order one now!

M and co boutique have a red prom dress for about 80. I'll try to link it...

I thought it was a more grown up version of a prom dress?

nervy555 · 18/05/2014 20:24

Woops sorry didn't read the whole thread!

MrsMaturin · 18/05/2014 20:24

The Jigsaw dress is lovely. Good idea to go with something like that as you are unlikely to be wearing the same as one of the students (horror!) Grin
