Help with my new top disaster.

I splashed out a bit and bought this top here to wear over jeans on a night out.

I tried it on quickly as I was in a hurry and loved it.

It is v-neck front and back. There was a thin ribbon across the back but it looked like the ones used to keep tops on the hanger so I cut it off. Now the top keeps slipping off the shoulders.

Was I supposed to keep the string across the back? It didn't look right on.

Also the top is quite transparent and I bought a cream strappy vest for under it but it's the wrong colour - the top is more grey/stone in tone. Has anyone seen a vest that might work?

Any help welcome - it's not often I spend this much and now it's not wearable.

Thanks.

Couldn't you sew the string back on?

Look inside. Has it got loops of cotton with poppers that go round your bra straps?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 14/05/2014 20:14

No advice sorry, I'm just in shock that its almost £90! Eek.

Saurus72 · 14/05/2014 20:15

It looks like that string across the back was supposed to be to keep it on the coat hanger - I would definitely have cut it off as well. Is it not supposed to fall off one shoulder? It kind of looks like that kind of top.

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 14/05/2014 20:15

The ribbon should have been cut off. Can't see how it would look right there! Just embrace the slouchy off the shoulder look and enjoy your top!

TSSDNCOP · 14/05/2014 20:16

Next have a grey thin strap vest for £4.50

If it's meant to be cut whys it in the photo?

Framboisier · 14/05/2014 20:17

I'd go for a nude coloured vest - it's what I wear under my cream silk blouse

As for 'string'...retrieve and sew it back on!

Dumpylump · 14/05/2014 20:20

Judging by the photo of the pink one, I'd say you were right and the ribbon is one of those annoying keep it on the hanger things. I'd have cut it off too, I think the neckline means that is is just one of those tops that is going to spend all night being a complete pain sliding seductively off your shoulder.
As for a vest or camisole for under it.....have you tried Zara? They usually have them in every colour imaginable!

AnnMumsnet · 14/05/2014 20:20

Oh you need some of these to stop the shoulder bits falling down. You attach to your bra strap and pin onto the inside of the top.

Anomite · 14/05/2014 20:24

So, the ribbon across the back was just for the hanger.. Don't worry you haven't snipped anything important...

What you need to do is go get a best to wear underneath... I would opt for a grey thin strapped vest.. Have you got a primark near you? They do the perfect vest for underneath that top in practically every colour.. They are about £2 each. I would wear it with a thin strapped vest (in grey) and a strapless bra underneath so it doesn't look like there is too much going on...

Anomite · 14/05/2014 20:26

A vest not a best!!!

MerryMarigold · 14/05/2014 20:28

Those bra strap things are fantastic.

Pregnantagain7 · 14/05/2014 20:30

Or take it to a alteration place and ask for lingerie straps to be put in have them on all my tops/dresses that slip, I'm very short waisted so this always happens to me. They are very similar to the things Anne mn showed but sewn in.

AnnMumsnet · 14/05/2014 20:44

They are very old skool aren't they? Always handy for a lady Wink

bouquetofpencils · 14/05/2014 21:17

Or tit tape on your shoulders?

plus2new · 14/05/2014 22:21

Thanks for the replies.

I did think the string was supposed to be removed but without it the effect is not so much seductive, more yikes, I've lost my top!

I'll have a look at Next/Primark for more suitable vests. The vest colour is important because the v is quite low and need vest to be as similar as possible.

Those bra attachments look very handy, will definitely get those.

The price is euros and I got 20% off in a sale so not quite as eye watering a price as you might think but enough to make it necessary for me to get it looking right.

Thanks all.

The top is lovely as is that site! I think that an item of good quality is always going to cost a fair bit more than Primark and will last a heck of a lot longer.

Can I ask if you had it shipped to the UK or do you live in Denmark? I'd love to buy one of the tops on there but bit nervous of returns if overseas?

plus2new · 17/05/2014 23:53

Thanks burmahere. I'm starting to think that way too and buy occasional nice things rather than more frequent cheaper stuff.

I'm in Ireland. Bought it in a shop here. The shop is called carrig donn. They have a website so it is worth checking if they deliver to the uk. Sorry can't link on this phone.
