For the past ten years I've worn Coco Mademoiselle but I went off it during pregnancy and now it seems a little bit heavy and overpowering. So I'm feeling it might be time for a change for my everyday perfume.

During pregnancy and since I've worn a lot of L'Occitane lemon verbena perfume so I think I'm looking for something a bit more 'natural' smelling. I really like rose scented things at the moment as well.

Can anyone help me put a list of potentials together. I feel a bit lost without a signature scent!

I also love Lemon Verbena Scents. My favourite perfumes at the moment are Heeleys Ververaine and Ysl In Love Again - both citrusy fruity perfumes. The best thing is to test lots of perfumes to see how they smell on you.Alternatively you can go the internet route and send off for samplers.Nose do a sample set for 10 Euros after a perfume personality profile.I'm now on my third set of samples and have found some real favourites.

Acqua di Parma Colonia (the original one, not any of the offshoots) is a lovely, elegant citrus cologne, that is pretty widely available and should be easy for you to test. Ormonde Jayne Zizan is another nice citrus, although rather drier and a bit more 'masculine' (I prefer to think of it as androgynous).

As for rose scents I like Serge Lutens Sa Majeste La Rose (quite a full on floral and beautifully done), Ormonde Jayne Taif (rose with saffron and pink pepper), Le Labo Rose 31 (woody rose), The Different Company Rose Poivree (rose with lots of leaves and stems mashed up into it) and Hermes Rose Ikebana (cool, sheer almost metallic rose).

If you just want a 'pure' rose Amouage do an amazing rose oil as part of their Attar range. It is exquisite and would last you AGES as you only need a drop.

Second the idea of sending off for samples. I use two companies in the USA for my samples - The Perfumed Court and Surrender to Chance. Both offer a great service. They do sampler sets focussed around a particular flower or note, so I am sure you could find a rose sampler set and a citrus one, which might be of interest.

Ooh thanks, the sampler sets sound like a great idea. Excited about trying something new, worn Coco since I was 16 so will feel like a different person!

My mum wears Coco Mademoiselle and also likes the original Stella and Hypnotic Poison. Elie Saab (EDT is fresher/more grapefruity, EDP is sweeter and more floral) is a very pretty orange blossom scent, which is very much along the lines of Coco Mademoiselle. I do recommend getting samples - maybe do a fragrance diagnostic on Nose?

I read on another thread that L'occitaine do a rose based perfume.

Have you tried La Rose from Lyn Harris (of Miller Harris fame) at M&S. Half price at moment (think they are discontinuing?).
