What do I wear to a beginners salsa class? Help!

It's a possibility I might be going to a salsa class on Saturday.

Confused over clothes and shoes can anyone help?

My wardrobe consists of the purely functional (sports and outdoor gear) or the relatively glamorous smart casual that I wear to work. I have flat boots and high heels and a couple of pairs of flip flops.

When I went to salsa, it was smart casual wear. The sort of thing you would wear to a pub rather than a club.
Jeans should be ok, wear a fairly loose, smart top that doesn't restrict movement or ride up. There is lots of arm movement in salsa. Try to wear a mid heel rather than a high one as it might be easier to get the foot placement right. I wore flats before I bought dance shoes but they did make my legs ache.
Have fun though, salsa is pretty easy to pick up the basics and a nice socialble evening out.

Thanks Peach

I've only got one pair of jeans, they are rather tight skinnies, I don't think I'd be comfortable enough in those. Maybe a skirt and top.

Shoes are a problem, most of the heels are way too high. One pair mid-heels have very slippery soles so they are definitely out, the other pair are a bit boring and are grey. Might have to pull everything out of the cupboard tonight.

skirt or looser trousers. you need mid heels. you can score a cross in heels so they don't slip maybe try that beforehand?

it really doesn't matter if the other pair are boring, no one will be watching. if you want to make it a regular event you can get nicer heels. far better that they're comfy to dance in.

Thanks!

I've decided on a black skirt and top combo and the slightly dull grey shoes glammed up a bit with some micronets. I know no one will take any notice but I feel much more confident if I feel I look good rather than just acceptable Grin

Am really scared now though!

Just remember (you probably won't do it) to either drink no alcohol or just one drink. It's not done to dance a bit tipsy (not saying you would!).

Also anything you don't understand, if you want to practice with someone more experienced then say (the more experienced men are usually very good).

enjoy!

aww thanks everyone!

It's in the afternoon, no drink will be taken Grin
