Are Ojon hair products any good?

Just that really.

I've abused my hair the last 3 months or so God knows why it it still looks shite so it's in need of TLC. I saw Ojon being sold in my local Poundshop, would you believe, and I walked on by. I've just clicked on a link here and ^they have their own website--!

Eek! Have I turned away from a bargain???

They are v expensive. Around £20 - £22 for shampoo / conditioner. IMO, not worth it but I know folk with coarse hair who love it

Oh blimey, then I'd better get myself right back there.

For a couple of quid, it's worth a test....

Try the jar first (the original products) it's a solid wax that you warm in your hands and apply as a post shampoo treatment. Then clingfilm wrap and leave as long as you can.
Be aware though, it has an mmmmm UNUSUAL smell , sort of coffee'n'ashtray kind of smell.

I don't find the shampoos / conditioners any better than any other shampoo TBH but I did have a spray-in conditioner that smelled gorgeous- people used to ask me what lovely perfume I was wearing Smile but I cannot find it again.

QVC used to sell it, but it doesn't appear on their websites now Confused either UK or USA.

Hex, I think some of their stuff is good. Salli Hughes in the Guardian has recommended their rare blend hair oil recently. I like their revitalizing mist.

Tell us - which pound shop and what products?

kirako · 10/05/2014 21:23

Pound shop?

Which chain, please? I need some!

TheGruffalo2 · 10/05/2014 21:31

I bought some in John Lewis - I just couldn't get used to the smell as it made me heave! I persevered for over a week, then gave it away. I wasn't that impressed that it did much for my over-processed hair.

I found a large selection plus a dedicated sales person at Boots in London. Sales person gave me loads of samples but I can't say that they seemed any better than other cheaper products. She told me that Ojon had been bought by Estée Lauder.

It's in Parc Tawe in Swansea. I don't know the name if the store but it's a cheap bargain homeware type shop - never been there before.

I'll go there after work tomorrow and post back.

It used to be good. Their tawaka range was awesome. But then Estée Lauder bought them, the formulations changed, tonnes of silicones and other nasties came in and it was ruined.

HexBramble · 11/05/2014 07:20

I'll have a good look at what's on offer and re-post back.

It strikes me lots of smaller, really good company's are bought by the bigger lot and effectively ruined. The Body Shop is another example - their Olive Oil shampoo and conditioner, not to mention the banana conditioner were amazing. All gone now. Sad

Oh they've been bought out Sad
That explains why the originator didn't show the products on QVC the last few times.

Background Story if you're interested:

The original founder (can't remember his name) - his wife suffered hair loss/hair damage after pg, his MIL left a babyfood jar full of olive green 'stuff' in their bathroom , it sat for months, till his wife used it. And result.
So he set about finding a group of people living deep in the rainforest (a trip by plane, tiny plane and boat) to find The People Without Hats who used the oil from the Ojon nut to make oil.

He bought their entire harvest, some is a short annual harvest, giving them employment but not destroying their environment or way of life.

But that will all change now, won't it Sad Angry

It would be interesting to know if the £Shop has the old stock - which I would say is the better, ethical stock?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/05/2014 15:23

When I bought it, years ago, it was from QVC.
I've never bought in-store and now it's been taken over, I probably wouldn't
