I'm hoping someone can help me- usually my nails are pretty good but going away on beach hol soon and wanted French manicure on hands & feet. But obviously if I paint them then they won't last the whole time. What kind of fake nails etc are best? And that hopefully won't trAsh my nails too much. Would they last the whole 2wks in water sand etc? Thanks guys

You'll want acrylics. You can get them off without too much damage by bathing them in acetone Grin

ClarksonsPerm · 09/05/2014 21:55

Yep. Pink and white acrylics - or just normal ones with a French Polish. Should easily last 2weeks and beyond. If they're done well and more importantly taken off properly they shouldn't damage your nails at all.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 09/05/2014 21:57

Shellac should last you two weeks and is not as expensive or as time consuming as acrylics. You can get french.

Marblewarble · 09/05/2014 21:58

Shellac French

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 09/05/2014 21:58

Or gel enhancements rather than acrylic enhancements as gel is less porous so better if your hands are going to be in water a lot.

Chocaholicmonster · 09/05/2014 22:02

I agree with the above posts... False glue on nails will certainly not last two weeks in water, heat & sand etc.

Add to your holiday & treat yourself to acrylics, shellac or gel nails before you go away. A professional at a nail salon will be able to advise you & help you make the decision between the three. Whichever you decide to choose, please make sure they are removed correctly otherwise you're nails will not thank you.

Enjoy your holiday! Wine

Sorry for sounding thick- what's the difference between them all??

Acrylic is I'm fairly certain literally a bit of acrylic put on the end of your nail and then glued in place with some really hard stuff :-)

I think gel is the same but not acrylic, shockingly it's gel.

Shellac I have no idea. Quite frankly I could be way off with the others but that's how I see it.

Takesalongtime · 09/05/2014 22:09

Thanks for that. Seems so confusing!

I'm a beauty therapist, let me explain lol!

Shellac is a gel polish, sets under a light, generally lasts 2 weeks, doesnt add length, comes in a variety of colours.

Gel enhancements add length, come in french or natural and set under a light.

Acrylic enhancements add length, come in french or natural and set in the air.

Both acrylic and gels are false nails, both are actually acrylic but just in different formats- one being gel, the other liquid and powder. Both look exactly the same when finished and have slightly different properties. HTH.

Chocaholicmonster · 09/05/2014 22:13

Acrylic nails is a false nail tip glued onto your nail with acrylic paste then spread across your nail to harden it.

Gel nails is very similar to acrylics but it's done with a gel which is then hardened with a UV lamp.

Shellac nails is a type of nail polish but it has a hardener in it which creates a long lasting effect.

Hope this helps :) As I said, a nail technician can help you you choose what might be best suited - depending how long you want them to last, least damage to the natural nail etc. Even if you pop in & just ask one for advice. Nail shops / bars are all over the place these days.

Raskova · 09/05/2014 22:14

Erm, yes. That's what I meant Wink Blush

Chocaholicmonster · 09/05/2014 22:15

I was close :P ... Ish!

Takesalongtime · 09/05/2014 22:18

Fab thanks everyone! A trip to the nail bar it is! Heard people get toe nails done - is this the case?? Quite fancy that if means won't chop off/wear off with sand, water & chlorine

Yes my friends gets toes done. She has acrylic on the big ones (it actually looks really nice and a white line painted on the little ones

Takesalongtime · 09/05/2014 22:22

Cool. I usually paint my own French on toes which looks ok but after last years short hol it soon came off so was hoping 4sething more hard wearing!

I get a layer of acrylic put onto my nails, in my case to stop me biting. The other advantage is that the polish lasts without chipping for two weeks.

itsbetterthanabox · 09/05/2014 23:48

Do you want length added? If you don't I'd just get shellac. Shellac is a brand name of a gel its coloured and not used to form tip. Ask for a shellac French manicure. Your nails will be strong, painted and shiny and it lasts 2-3 weeks on hands and longer on toes.
