Queens garden party.

I'm off to the garden party in June (ladedah!) I have zero style and currently live in jeans. I have bought this dress m.hobbs.co.uk/product-detail?productid=0114-5411-9845L00&productvarid=0114-5411-9845L00-RED-18 (red twitchell dress from Hobbs). Now I've found out that I need to wear a hat Confused. Any good suggestions on a modest budget? Really I need hat, shoes and some kind of jacket/cardigan. Also what colour do you think? Red, grey or cream/nude? Thank you wise people x

Love the dress. I'd just go for black shoes and hat and clutch. Means you will wear them again.

Red or nude, have fun.

Beautiful dress, I would go for navy jacket, hat, bag & shoes.

How about this or one of its sisters for a cover up?
Hat wise maybe this
better?
bigger

Black wedges - stilettos would be a nightmare on the grass.

ah, bag. Yes. this? probably over budget, cheap and cheerful. Pricier again but bootiful and a bargain

OTOH you could just as easily add brights and a bit of floral to the dress - would take a load of different stylings really. Grand choice.

Where abouts are you? The reason I say is there is a great lady in Esher Surrey who rents out hats. You tell her the colour you want and she gets out all the hats in that colour for you to try on. Loads of people use her for Ascot , weddings etc. I hired a hat for a Queens garden party too! My mum got her hat for my wedding there. If not why don't you google 'hire a hat' near you - you will get a better hat for a lot less money.

Thanks for all your tips - hadn't thought of hiring a hat and I'm in Surrey so I will look her up. Made the awful mistake of googling 'nude hats' today, won't do that again in a hurry GrinGrin. Fingers crossed for nice weather in the day x

Go for flats/low heels - there's lots of standing/ very few chairs

Poseypops · 08/05/2014 20:19

Flats sound good!

Gorgeous dress. I would go for cream accessories

Red/black - too severe for summer; school uniform
Red/navy - cabin crew
Nude shoes - orthopaedic

The shoes the Hobbs model is wearing are perfect!

Ooh! I am going too, in May. Started a similar thread last week.

I hired a hat for the Grand National this year as DH works there and I was in the posh bit. Only cost 20 quid to hire.

A colleague went to a garden party and invested in a really posh, fancy umbrella in case it rained, it did and she was very smug! And still uses the umbrella.
