Red lipstick help needed

Most red lipsticks turn pink on me, but I want a dark red/blue lipstick. I currently use Liz Earles Poppy lip pencil all over my lips, but want to find a lipstick of the same colour.

Have looked loads, but atm pink seems to be the in colour.

Help!

I use Rimmel (the Kate Moss one) in 111, Kiss of Life. Not one of my usual preferred brands but I must admit, it's marvellous for depth of colour and staying power.

Mac Lady Danger!

Trollsworth · 07/05/2014 17:26

What colour are your hair, eyes, and the veins on your wrists?

MyrtleDove · 07/05/2014 17:54

Sleek Russian Roulette is a dark red. Also try the red L'Oreal Serum lipstick (the one with the serum in the middle - I think it's shade 502. There is only one red in that range anyway though!

soaccidentprone · 07/05/2014 18:42

Hair - light brown - going grey, very pale skin (I wear porcelain foundation), brown eyes.

Veins - blue.

Prefer to wear more 'natural' products, hence the Liz Earle pencil. Usually wear aveda lipstick. My hair was dark red, but I've had that stripped out to see how much grey/white I have as the contrast between the dark red and the roots was becoming very noticeable.

Kate Moss for Rimmel 01 is a really good dark, blue-toned red. Not sure you're going to get the best colours from 'natural' brands, sorry! Maybe try Lush? They have quite a wide range of colours in their makeup range.

MyrtleDove · 07/05/2014 19:05

Also there is MAC Viva Glam I which is more going into burgundy - not natural as such but 100% of the profits goes to funding HIV/AIDS research, so more 'ethical' at least.

M&S own brand makeup is not tested on animals and the Autograph chubby stick type lipsticks are good.

MsAspreyDiamonds · 07/05/2014 19:06

I had a thread recently about this and lots of people suggested MAC & NARS but they are not natural brands.

soaccidentprone · 07/05/2014 19:07

I bought a m&s one 'ruby', but it is too cerise on me.

Try Lush lipstick in Ambition.

Mac Ruby Woo and Russian Red are probably worth a try. Get thee to a mac counter they have an excellent range of reds and they know their stuff too.

TinyDiamond · 07/05/2014 21:31

mac ruby woo or russian red

TinyDiamond · 07/05/2014 21:31

I have lots of red lipsticks! Good every day red lips are Revlon lipbalm in romantic or Mac ladybug. Both quite sheer but you can build the colour to your desired shade.

I also have Mac ruby woo and russian red. Ruby woo is a lovely colour but I find it completely unwearable-its so dry! russian red is also a great colour and not so drying though I still find you need to prepare your lips before you apply it.

Three of my favourite red's are Mac's red and collection 2000 in both Queen of hearts and Ruby red.

Botanicbaby · 07/05/2014 22:01

OP I recommend you try Lipstick Queen Scarlet Red Sinner - a blue red, fragrance free lipstick. Or Nautical Queen a dark blue berry.

MyrtleDove · 07/05/2014 22:04

Revlon balm stain in Romantic and MAC Lady Bug are both warm-toned reds though. I love them both, but they're not blue-toned at all.

Ruby Woo and Russian Red are both incredibly drying IMO, I find Ruby Woo impossible to get onto my lips evenly.

Revlon Red is blue-toned I think? Topshop lipstick in Trigger is a blue-toned red, and Topshop lipstick is great - there's also Hazard which is more burgundy.

sauvignonblacks · 07/05/2014 22:06

Riri woo if still available is a nicer formula than Ruby woo IMO have you tried a lip liner first? On This Morning, this morning, there had a whole segment on red lippie how to apply it etc should be available on catch up x
