I have been and tried it on twice now! I am a size 18 and quite hourglass, it gives a lovely waistline.
However I am worried about the elastic band. I have lost 5 and a half pounds in a week and am hoping to lose more however I have an event at end of May that I am hoping to wear this for.

Do you think I could get away with it if I loose more? Also it is £60! Is it worth it? The bottom is silky with a pouffy underskirt. I guess I'm worried it is a lot of money, but I think I could get some wear out of it...
Opinions welcome!!

I don't think £60 is a lot for a dress but that one does look a bit frumpy. It looks like the kind of dress someone who wears a velvet Alice band would wear

AtrociousCircumstance · 05/05/2014 21:51

I think it's cute. As long as you don't wear an Alice band Grin

If you lose lots more weight you could always pop a couple of stitches in at each side of the band maybe? Nothing too extensive, just a bit of tightening if needed?

*note - I am not a seamstress

Ihatemytoes · 05/05/2014 21:52

It's not very nice....

AlpacaYourThings · 05/05/2014 21:54

It's not a nice dress.

theincrediblealfonso · 05/05/2014 21:55

Ooh, l like it. Looks like it'd be v. flattering.

pinkstinks · 05/05/2014 21:56

Oh bum! I don't own any Alice bands fortunately.
I want to style like this:

I also have white blonde hair will do in victory rolls and I always wear a red lippy! Was hoping to funk it up not frump it up!!!

Is that the model shot, it's a lot less frumpy on. I think that shot looks lovely.

pinkstinks · 05/05/2014 22:01

Yes the pic was on the website, the dress is by scarlet and Jo stocked In Evans.

I like it! I think it will be nice for end may, with matching accessories. Not black! I like the neck and shoulder line as well.

If you are losing weight and plan to stay at it, how different in size is the 16 and did you try it on? Would you wear spanx?

I too think if you buy the 18 and and its a bit loose only on the waist you will get away with it.

If you loose round the bust and shoulders it may be a bit big. It depends on the cut. Is the top stretchy?

NoArmaniNoPunani · 05/05/2014 22:08

If you're into a 1940/50's look you can find a much nicer dress than that to suit your shape

Maverick66 · 05/05/2014 22:19

Fwiw my 21 year old dd tried this dress on for a wedding we were going to at Easter. She loved it tho she is a size 18 and it emphasised any back fat she has :( it was very flattering otherwise tho and a good length) Dd has PCOS and tends to carry any weight like a middle aged woman does ie back fat and love handles :{

LRDtheFeministDragon · 05/05/2014 22:22

It's quite pretty, but I think I'd be seeing it as a 'modest' dress good for days when I didn't want to think too hard and wanted to be comfortable. I think the problem is, while it does nip in for your waist, it also makes you look bigger up top than you need to, and that isn't ideal.

Something cotton rather than clingy might work? These people do some nice stuff sometimes: www.eucalyptusclothing.co.uk/

Or there's a thread:www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2067238-To-think-a-normal-length-cotton-dress-with-sleeves-is-in-fact-the-Holy-Grail

I think the dress you have is fine, and a pretty pattern - but you could find someting even better!

pinkstinks · 05/05/2014 22:30

Thanks all!
Fwiw I'm 25! I just love the fact it has sleeves! I don't have to add a bloody shrug to cover my ham arms!
I am a 36jj up top so already big!! Love the fact it shows I have a waist under them tho...
Top is jersey material so stretchy.
Thanks for the link to that thread, interesting stuff!
On a bit of a tight budget but will have a look at a few others too :)

It depends what your event is. I like the dress but think it might be a bit dark for something at the end of the month.

Would you wear something like this or any of these?

They'd look great with your victory rolls.

Valdeeves · 05/05/2014 22:56

I think you'll look good in it - maybe a bright bag and shoes plus hair accessory or bright necklace with?

LRDtheFeministDragon · 05/05/2014 22:57

Oh, at 25 it will look gorgeous!

You have to go with the LindyBop website someone recommended. The dresses are gorgeous!

pinkstinks · 05/05/2014 23:15

The Lindybop website looks lovely and very reasonably priced! I just worry about the measurements and zips at least this one is a bit forgiving without a zip!
But isn't this one stunning

Will have a look at the eucalyptus one when I'm on the laptop as I can't get flash on this phone :(
I have some accessories that could work. For me the dress is colourful I have hidden away in black for a long time...

I've been eyeing up that dress after seeing it on fuller figure fuller bust!
