Red lipstick for fair skin?

Could anyone point me in the direction of ared liptick that will suit fair skin? I've got blonde hair, pale blue eyes and am pale-ish of skin- sort of warm ivory in No7. I tend to wear pinks if at all, but would love to try something bolder. I have tried a couple and feel like it drains my colour, so any advice would be much appreciated (even if it's that I should avoid red!)

Nars Jungle or Mac Ladybug.I have similar colouring and these are my favourites.

Revlon really red.

MyrtleDove · 01/05/2014 21:25

Are you warm-toned or cool-toned? Fair is quite a big category! Are the ones you've tried a cool (blue-toned) red or an orangey red?

I like Lancôme Madame Tulip and also Mac Ladybug.

RevoltingPeasant · 01/05/2014 21:40

Btw, have fair slightly freckled skin, blue eyes and dyed red hair.

What myrtledove said. If you don't know you could ask at a counter and they will be able to help you pick the right colour. I would be able to tell you if you post pic but I totally understand you might not want to do that.

Soap & Glory Mantrap is a great red, really flattering.

Hi, thanks for the replies and sorry for the delay in coming back. i'm not sure if I'm cool or warm toned at all. I find that pale blues and greens work well on me, not sure if that helps though! The most recent attempt was Revlon Candy Apple, which was Ok but still didn't quite work.
I like the look of the Mac one, so might try that

MAC Lady Bug is a soft, flattering red - I find that the Revlon balm stains in red are around that colour too, and cheaper!

I would recommend going to a counter and testing an obviously cool lipstick against an obviously warm one, and get the assistants to help see which one suits best. You may also have a neutral skintone, they do exist - I have neutral skin.

You sound like you might be a spring, in which case coral-based reds are best. Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids in Neon Red sounds scary but in fact is very nice - it is bright but wearable.

Chanel in la malicieuse is my fave at the moment! It's a corally red in a velvet finish.

cashmerecardigans · 03/05/2014 18:35

Thanks so much. I will try the maybelljne one before I splash out on anything more expensive. I love the name of the Chanel one though!

Oh and the discontinued Revlon Strawberry Suede should be good. My friend got it on ebay for about £12 so not too bad.

Lisa Eldridge has recently done a video on red lipsticks for all different skin tones, it's on her website. I can't do a link but if you just google you can get there.
