How do you get make up to stay on?

Took time with my make up this morning, all gone by 10.30. Am fed up of people telling me I look pale/ill/tired.
My routine was:
Olay serum
Origins Plantscription moisturiser
Wait 10/15 mins
Benefit Porefessional primer
Ysl concealer
Ysl foundation
More concealer
Quick brush of some L'Oreal powder
No7 Blusher
Looked ok leaving the house but awful by 10.30. My skin isn't particularly oily so why won't it stay on me. Am trying to update my makeup but am loathe to spend if it won't last. Any ideas please?

OnTheBottomWithAWomansWeekly if you apply the double wear with a brush you can apply it lighter

pinkpeoniesx · 02/05/2014 16:21

I use either Illamasqua rich liquid or Laura Mercier silk creme foundation (both medium/ full coverage so no need for concealer and a little goes a long long way.) Then Urban Decay 'All Nighter' setting spray. My make up doesn't budge at all.
Best combination I've found! Smile
I swear by all three of those. I think buffing your foundation in really helps with staying power too. I use the Real Techniques buffing brush (orange handle). By far the best brushes I've had.

emilyofnewmoon · 02/05/2014 19:05

pinkepeonies is the buffing brush the same as the stippling brush? I did wonder about a setting spray.
Make up lasted a bit better today with no serum but veins still not covered. Think I may try the Mac concealer. Can't wait to try the Lanacane anti chaff stuff now Smile

Does the setting spray make your makeup look heavy?

Eliza22 · 02/05/2014 19:57

Only use the serum at night.

Bobbi Brown BB cream is fantastic on its own or as a primer under foundation IMO. It lasts well.

Layering blush works too.

Keep your fingers off your face.

Blotting powders.

Used to love Estée Lauder Double Wear, recently it's become cakey and gross, no matter how I apply it. New formula? Me getting older, I don't know. Any how, I'm now using Clarins everlasting and it stays put and looks great. I use MAC SPF 50 underneath.

Great thread! And timely too! I just glanced in the mirror mid afternoon and my foundation was blotchy in places, sunk into pores in other places and completely gone everywhere else. I apply it with a brush, don't use primer and am really lazy about skincare which doesn't help. I do moisturise though. Am regretting having just bought a new foundation - as yet unopened so wondering whether it's time to change. Hmmmm .....

pinkpeoniesx · 02/05/2014 21:40

The setting spray is brilliant. I do all my makeup, give it a few sprays, then when it's still wet I quickly pat over any areas that get a bit cakey (around my eyes, side of nose etc) then it dries and TA DA perfect. All cakiness gone so no heaviness at all and that's my makeup set for the day.
I have quite oily skin but I don't even need a powder top up on a normal day.

The brush has got an orange handle and is flat at the end. I bought it as part of the core collection set, boots call it a buffing brush. Very confusing though as my pink flat head RT blush brush is also called a buffing brush! Basically it's the flat head with the orange handle you want Smile I have the entire set now Blush If you buy them from iHerb (American site) they're so much cheaper. I had to pay about £8 customs charges but still saved SO much overall as postage was so cheap. They do take a while to arrive though.

emilyofnewmoon · 03/05/2014 00:14

Thanks for that pinkpeonies. That spray sounds fab, have added to my shopping list. Core collections set eh? Think I need one of them too. Maybe will wait til next payday Blush
Something I have tried in the last couple of days which I can recommend is Superdrug Natural Radiance Hot Cloth cleanser. Has left my skin feeling lovely and smells gorgeous. Cheap too Smile

Cement

pinkpeoniesx · 03/05/2014 09:01

Thanks Emily, I use the eye cream and face mask in that range so will give the cleanser a try too. I need all the radiance I can get atm!

emilyofnewmoon · 03/05/2014 12:56

There's an eye cream and face mask!! Off to Superdrug now to have a look. Smile I only picked it up a while back because it was on offer and my usual Vit B one wasn't but it is so much nicer. I bought the Soap and Glory eye cream last week but am not too impressed so will have a look at this one.

pinkpeoniesx · 03/05/2014 14:56

Was it the soap and glory eye pot in the little white round pot? I've got that and it's RUBBISH!!
Their liquid highlighter is ahmaaazing though. It's called Hocus Focus and I use it as a primer. So good! The S&G powder highlighter is brilliant too Smile

Can you tell I have an unhealthy makeup obsession?

emilyofnewmoon · 03/05/2014 19:20

I am starting to get the idea pink Grin I think I may be heading that way too Blush
It was the silver youthful eye cream. My Superdrug didn't have the Naturally Radiant eye cream or mask so will have a look when I hit the shops tomorrow Smile

Have fun! Smile

Once you put your make up on, do not touch your face.

My make up stays on all day; I do not use primer and my brushes are run of the mill. Mac concealer and powders/cream to powders are excellent. They feel like a second skin.

libertytrainers · 03/05/2014 22:32

it's pricey but the shu uemura primer really does make make up stay put
