I am going to a wedding in june. My dress is a 50's style black and white daisy print dress with yellow flecks inside the daisys. I love the dress and was thinking a lemon cardi (tattoo coverage) and lemon converse.
I will be there with my 3 year old twins. I can not walk in heels of any description.

Would it look ok? I cant find a pic of the dress but its by "the collection" in debenhams

I wouldn't, I'd find a nice pair of flats that are complementary, or just plain black.

beachyhead · 29/04/2014 14:12

You could try these are more shoe - y and in black, you may get more wear out of them.

MyrtleDove · 29/04/2014 14:17

Fine IMO. Loads of brides wear converse nowadays!

HerRoyalNotness · 29/04/2014 14:22

what about a brogue? ICE WHITE-41&refpage=shoes-boots/flats-pumps hobbs brogue

flat sandal

or just a ballet flat?

If you were going for a night out for sure the converse, but not for a wedding.

pootlebug · 29/04/2014 14:22

Totally depends on the nature of the wedding imo. If unsure I would veer towards a pair of lemon or black ballet flats or similar I think.

typedup · 29/04/2014 14:26

Depends if you want to make a point by wearing them. Do you want to say, 'look at me, I'm a bit cooky and I reject wedding norms' (which is fine) or do you just want something to walk in? If the latter then surely you could find a pair of flat shoes?

HerRoyalNotness · 29/04/2014 14:27

lemon ballet flat, only 1 size 40 left

eurochick · 29/04/2014 14:29

I'd go for ballet flats or flat sandals. I wouldn't wear Converse or similar to a wedding and it doesn't sound like they would go with the dress.

starshaker · 29/04/2014 19:23

Sorry I should also mention I have a tattoo on my foot that I need to cover. The kids are wearing converse too. The wedding is at a hotel with a park so I'll be running about after the kids. I'm the only one of my siblings not involved in the wedding so the fact that we aren't part of the wedding and have probably only been invited because my diss feels she has too makes me feel I'd much rather put my comfort (and I suppose personal style) before doing what is possibly expected.

Why do you need to cover your tattoos? I'd say it's acceptable to show them these days. The ballet type converse are lovely.

starshaker · 29/04/2014 19:28

My grandparents hate them. The don't even know I have any and I respect them too much to rub it in their faces since I know how they feel. After the meal the tattoos won't be an issue

So almost everyone has said no wear flats but you still want to wear the converse.
I personally think they're too casual unless invite states otherwise.
There are other options for you, how about a bit of respect for the wedding or simply don't go if it doesn't meet your requirements

TheCraicDealer · 29/04/2014 19:34

Kat Von D (of Miami/LA Ink fame) does a heavy duty concealer designed to cover up tattoos, it's available in the UK from Sephora, less than £20 if I remember correctly Might give you a few more options for family do's clothes-wise!

How about Toms ballet flats for the wedding? Won't cover the tat, but very comfy. I wouldn't go down the converse route for the whole day- I love them, but not for a wedding. What about bringing heels for the ceremony and photos and then you can change when the kids start charging around at the reception?

Kaekae · 29/04/2014 19:37

No to the Converse. You'll spoil the wedding photos. Shock

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/04/2014 19:38

If you want to wear your converse because they are comfy and flats are too narrow and pointy and cripple your feet, have a look at Vivo Barefoot, I have a pair of their Mary Jane's and they are soooo comfy

scottishmummy · 29/04/2014 19:39

Sounds lovely, and if it suits your natural style you'll feel comfortable

starshaker · 29/04/2014 20:00

I won't be in the photos. I'll try and find something for the wedding then change after.

I think your grandparents would be just as shocked to see you wearing Converse!

scottishmummy · 29/04/2014 20:04

Converse with a pretty dress sounds acceptable,it'll no frighten the horses
Enjoy yourself
And in flats you'll be good fir a jig too

MuttonCadet · 29/04/2014 20:11

My bridesmaids wore converse and looked very cool Wink

MairyHoles · 29/04/2014 20:12

I live in Converse and also have tattoos that I tend to mainly keep covered for work. I have recently bought some shoes (link below, I don't know how to just say "here" and make it linky) which I could literally walk all day in, even though I cannot walk in heels and am used to flat shoes. They have extra padding at the balls of the feet. I would be inclined to wear them with a wee frilly ankle sock (also see link below). I have worn similar to this to a recent wedding, I have worn Converse at a wedding before, only at the end of the night when my feet failed in other high heels!

Meant to say, I bought these in black and also have tattooed feet!

NoArmaniNoPunani · 29/04/2014 20:16

I got married in converse type shoes (with my tattoos on show)
