Evening wedding reception ideas?

What do you wear to an evening wedding reception. I've only ever been to the whole event.
This is dh colleague and so don't know them very well.

Same thing you would wear for a night out I think.

Just a 'nice' dress and some heels - and you avoid the whole, 'Do I need a stupid hat?' and, 'Can I get away with wearing black/white/long/short/whatever' nonsense too, so a win win!

I've got a light coloured maxi dress which is a column length style. It's strapless.
I've always avoided maxi dresses to formal occasions suc as weddings/races etc as I never thought they suited the occasion.
Any other ideas? Links?

And I don't want to look as though I'm going clubbing!
I'm always quite fussy about dressing for the occasion as I dislike it when others seem I appropriately dressed (short dresses, full makeup for races etc).
God I sound a right snob! But I'm not. I just thjnk it's nice when women dress accordingly.

I'd wear a slightly toned down version of what I would wear to the whole wedding. So no hat, maybe a slightly less fussy dress.

The way I think about it is that you're going to be mixing with the bridal party and day guests so should at least match their attire. A good example would be DH - he would rove jacket and tie by the eve so if only attending in the evening would wear no jacket or tie.

So does the one I linked to look like a 'clubbing' dress then?

Would deffo avoid long light coloured and strapless dress - far too bridesmaidy.

Right - what's your budget / what shapes do you like? / colours?

In my 30s size 8. 5 ft 6. Often get complimented on my figure!
Usually shop at whistles, Reiss etc.
I love clothes. I like what olivia palermo, jessica alba etc wears.
Def don't want to look like a bridesmaid, nor do I like blending in and looking the same as everyone else!
