help with teeth

I dont know if this is the right place to post but I need advice regarding my teeth.

Ive neglected them big time after having my dc. I smoke heavily and drink copious amounts of tea.

I brush them day and night but theres no difference. They are really yellow. Its embarrassing. I dont smile very much. Im so self conscious that its effecting my everday life.

Does anyone know of any good product (thats quite cheap) that could help whiten my teeth.

Thankyou

Do you go to the dentist? That would be my first port of call! A scale and polish isn't expensive if you are NHS registered.

Dentist first

Stop smoking!
Whitening toothpaste

Yes, it would make a difference. Also worth seeing if there is any other work that needs done.

I got a Sonicare toothbrush in the Amazon sale at Christmas, I previously had an Oral B electric one, but the difference it has made is incredible (used in conjunction with whitening paste)...

Weak hydrogen peroxide solution works very well and is about £1 from boots!

I absolutely swear by activated charcoal capsules from Holland & Barrett, my teeth are naturally slightly yellow and I drink a lot of coffee so they can get worse if I don't keep an eye on them. I've tried all kinds of whitening toothpastes, (although to be fair, arm & hammer baking soda one is ok), had my teeth whitened for £££, crest strips thingies and honestly, the charcoal works brilliantly and is only about £5 for a huge jar.

I just break a capsule open, sprinkle it on to my toothbrush then brush, rinse and brush again with normal paste. I do this most nights if I can be bothered and it has given just as good results as the professional whitening.

The black mouth and sink is quite a sight though!!

these are the ones I use.

Get a proper cleaning at the dentists.
Get a good quality electric toothbrush
Whitening toothpaste
Whitening mouthwash
Floss daily

Crest whitening strips - not available in the UK so you need to go online to get them, but they do work very well.

All these suggestions sound great. Ive just booked in with my dc dentist for wednesday. So fingers crossed it goes ok. I know my teeth are in good health apart from staining. The charcoal capsules sound good and the weak hydrogen peroxide. Ill do anything to whiten these buggers up. Thanks everyone x

The only toothpaste that's removed staining for me is white glo smokers toothpaste (amazon or eBay)
I get heavy staining and usually have to go to the hygienist a lot. Could have cried when this worked as it's saved me so much money!

Sonicare toothbrush and Rembrandt whitening toothpaste, and go first for polish with the dentist.

Right, I was so nervous of the dentist I didn't go for EIGHTEEN years. Teeth felt loose in pregnancy, yellowed, I had practically convinced myself I had oral cancer, let alone needing fillings.

I finally dragged myself there for the sake of setting an example to my kids, honestly I was more of a mess than in labour.

She poked around for about two min, said they were fine! Sent me to the hygeinist who got rid of the plaque (think horrible) and they were shiney white! After the second visit my gums were declared in avery good state.

Go! It's life-changing to stop having the fear and embarrassment over you. The whole experience gave me new confidence in myself and what I could do, I even went for and got a promotion whilst on a high!

OP I don't smoke but my teeth always seem to get yellow. It was really getting me down earlier this year to the point where I didn't want to smile at work and in public.

I asked my dentist and he said they could do whitening treatments but he had something else for me to try first.....

After you brush your teeth, dry the toothbrush and pull back your lips so front teeth exposed. Pat these dry with loo roll or dry flannel so teeth are fairly dry. Then, "brush dry". He said you can be "quite rough"! It creates a very mild abrasive but one that will not do damage to the tooth enamel, which is normally a risk of whitening.

I polished my teeth like this every night for 10 days which was his advice, and after that time they looked so much better I have decided not to do whitening! I top up once or twice a week now.

And best of all, it is cheap and no snake oil products!!

Oh sorry, forgot to say, put toothpaste on the dry toothbrush! That bit is kind of important Grin
