Well someone had to do it....

OP posts:
Cremolafoam · 01/05/2014 12:23

Grin @ Stropps dog listening to shipping forecast . Priceless.
Cremolacat2 brought us a baby duckling yesterdaySad. We live neither near water or a park .

MI - breathe breathe.

Lalsy & hatty , I know that dd is also stressed about leaving home her bat cave but also secretly quite excited I think . I am hoping that much growing up and independence will happen over the summer.( trip to Ghana etc) But I am worried for all of us. So much of what we do has been wrapped up in dds life. I don't think we are prepared for the empty nest thing that is imminent. I am feeling particularly maudlin about it today.

herbaceous · 01/05/2014 12:26

Crikey. If you want maudlin, take a look at the 'midlife blues' thread. We're all relatively sprightly in comparison.

QQ - thanks for all your suggestions. Which DP has mainly studiously ignored. Instead, we're going to Plum and Spilt Milk in the newly tarted up Great Northern Hotel. Variable reviews, so we'll see!

lalsy · 01/05/2014 12:32

Crem, Cake Wine. Perhaps thinking it through and even feeling maudlin in advance will make you better prepared when it happens? I keep telling myself the holidays are long.....

motherinferior · 01/05/2014 12:36

I am being determinedly spritely on that thread, innit. I save my wibblings for my beloved Crepesters.

Herbs, phone the dentist. With any luck you will have an interesting case history you can write up Grin

Crem, don't forget you have taken on a particularly heavy whack of responsibility with DD, so it's going to hit you particularly hard.

Cremolafoam · 01/05/2014 12:37

Blimey Herbs I know. That thread is depressing.
Lalsy, hopefully yes I can get it over with in advance. Between ddad and dd my time has been sapped by caring. I need to do something heroic for myself soon i suppose. But never seem to get a purchase on that.

bigTillyMint · 01/05/2014 12:38

Am loving StroppdogSmile

I am not even beginning to think about how DD would manage if she goes away to uni - she is finding managing school so difficult ATM.
I couldn't wait to get away to poly - I hated being at home with just my DM. I guess I might have had the odd nerves, but as one of my best friends was also going to the uni in the same city and there were others from school also going to the poly, I guess I was a bit cushioned!

I have never heard of either, Herbs, off to google!

motherinferior · 01/05/2014 12:44

I just phone a press office and got the maddest former employer I've ever had. OMFG.

I love Stropdog. Must tell my friend with the brain tumour, as it will make him smile.

lalsy · 01/05/2014 12:52

Crem, yes, after my ddad died (I helped care for him), I went on a big long-haul holiday (took some courage as the previous two times I had left the country for more than a week, I was met on my return by bad family news). dc going to university clearly a different kettle of infinitely more positive fish, but the same sense of needing to reassert one's own identity perhaps?

Am staying away from any miserable threads.

wilbur · 01/05/2014 12:57

Have just done supermarket sweep of Zara for dh and bought several nice tops. But not this one Shock. I fell in love with this delicious boy along the way - he has brightened my day considerably. Also bought some sweet things for dd's birthday next week and a pair of trousers which don't actually have my size in stock, but I am delusionally hoping I might fit in the small as they are a generous cut. Will be queuing at the post office with those next week Blush].

Cremolafoam · 01/05/2014 13:32

Ooh Wilbur , nice view and the shirt is lovely too.
Can't see the yellow trousers on any bloke round this way tho.
I am particularly fond of Zara knitwear. Must have a look soon

bigTillyMint · 01/05/2014 15:29

Love the shirt and model! DH won't wear flowery shirts (don't actually think they would suit him anyway!) and wouldn't be seen dead in yellow trousers (think Dom on Gogglebox!)

Herbs, that plum place looks niceEnvy

I am getting some very strange sensations at the back/bottom of my head - not a headache but a bit sort of twingey and I am wondering if it is something to do with the BP tablets as I am on a stronger dose now (was the lowest poss for a week)

motherinferior · 01/05/2014 15:48

BTM, worth checking in with the GP, I am thinking. Just to check you're OK.

Herbs, this is normal, isn't it. Designer keeps missing stuff. I keep missing stuff. I hate this frantic last-minutery.

herbaceous · 01/05/2014 16:09

Oh yes. Totes normal. You will see further mistakes on the printers' proofs, and further mistakes once it's printed.

NUFC69 · 01/05/2014 16:11

I'm back and have just spent hours reading the "new" thread - should be doing the ironing or something similar, but really can't be bothered. This was another holiday in April when the weather let me down: Dubrovnik in the rain, ditto Corfu, Kotor, Genoa. We loved Corsica and would go there again for a proper stay. Much wine was imbibed and I developed a taste for Blue Lagoon cocktails. One of the best things was cycling round the city walls in Lucca; oh and we loved our two days in Venice.

Herbs, sorry to read of the stress of your interview day - hope it all works out as you want. I loved the idea of your DS's costume and scooter ride in London.

I hope all the exams are proceeding with less angst now. I remember DD going off to uni quite vividly: DH was in the USA and DS drove down to Lancaster with us. I remember bawling in the car on the way home.

bigTillyMint · 01/05/2014 16:52

Well, I will monitor it for a few days I think and then go on Tues if necessary - the next appointment is in 2 1/2 weeks. It's nothing major, just a rather strange sensationConfused

Welcome back NU - sounds like you had a lovely time despite the weatherSmile

motherinferior · 01/05/2014 17:08

DP wants to go to Venice for his 50th. I could be persuaded Grin

Cremolafoam · 01/05/2014 17:09

Welcome back NU. Shame about the weather, but glad a jolly time was had.

Dd is home from her LAST DAY OF SCHOOL EVER!!!!ShockShockShock

That's it. 14 years done and dusted .
Can't believe this day has arrived.
No more school gates. No more school runs. No more concerts and dodgy cakes from HE. No more bitchy year 9s, no more class photos , no more conjuring up ingredients at the crack of dawn, no more untouched pack lunches, no more stripy shirts to iron , no more labels to stick on or sew in. No more lost blazers or worn out school shoes , no more notes to write to the form teacher. There has been tears and laughter and tantrums and trophies.
Aw.

Dd is off to a big celebratory party tonight. I am feeling quite torn between sad and happy. Roll on the next chapter .

herbaceous · 01/05/2014 17:25

Aw, Crem. That must be a bittersweet feeling. For all concerned. Onward...

In other news, I've got a speeding conviction notice! Yay! I was going a death-defying 41mph in a 30mph zone. But it was in Slough, so surely I could reasonably argue that I was just trying to escape?

It seems that if I go on a speed awareness course, I won't get the points. Or a fine. Though the letter's rather hard to understand.

CointreauVersial · 01/05/2014 17:30

BTM - don't ignore the funny feeling, with your BP ishoos.

NU - some lovely places you've been to! We went to Corsica on our honeymoon, and to Lucca four or five times. Cycling round the city walls and climbing the tower with the trees on top are definitely family faves.

That midlife crisis thread I thought was fairly uplifting, seeing as it was all the 30/40-somethings who were moaning about life, whereas those over 50 were full of positivity. In other words, we are heading towards the good times, not leaving them behind.

motherinferior · 01/05/2014 17:30

Oh Crem.

Crack open a bottle of something nice and congratulate yourself. You have done a frankly amazing job, taking DD on and making her life secure and happy and confident; you've raised a fabulous young woman. We're proud to know you.

motherinferior · 01/05/2014 17:35

Yes, BTM, that was what I was sort of trying to say; please just go and get it checked.

CointreauVersial · 01/05/2014 17:36

Herbs, you norty girl. DM went on a speed awareness course and found it quite informative. And yes, I think you avoid the fine and points.

Crem - what a milestone! I am just counting the days to the end of Primary School, which will reduce the school run massively. I'm up and down the A25 like a loony at the moment.

hattymattie · 01/05/2014 18:43

Gosh Crem that's really early, we still have a month to go.

MI - we've booked on impulse to go to Venice August - the excuse being my 50thSmile. I have been warned it will be hot and smelly!

bigTillyMint · 01/05/2014 18:52

Oh Cremo, a bitter-sweet milestone indeed, (well said, MI) although DD would be beside herself with joy if this was her last school day ever!

Stropperella · 01/05/2014 18:54

Herbs, yup, go for the speed awareness course and you won't get the points, but the cost of the course is actually more than the fine. But then if you take the points your insurance will go up. I have done 2 courses in the last 2 years. Blush Once I was going 41 and the next time I was doing 36. Oops.
