Robust trews for rumbustious boys

I have a nearly 10 year-old son who can get through the knees of trousers in a fraction of a second. Every pair I buy are trashed within weeks. He dislikes jeans. Where can I get robust trousers that will withstand even nine-year-old antics? I don't mind paying a reasonable amount if they will last, but he currently seems to get through them all irrespective of price!

If I could put him in shorts all year, I would. Knees heal but trousers don't!

I've had this with my 3 year old and have bought a few pairs of reinforced knee trousers for next year (lands end and la redoute). I can't comment on how well they stand up yet, but any things worth a go after he's been through about 5 pairs in the last few months.

For grey school trousers my DSis used to buy the patches and iron them onto the inside of her DS's trousers at knee position before he even wore them. They would then last much longer.

(assuming the patches are still available)
