Help! need some posh Ceilidh dancing shoes!

Have two weddings coming up, both will be ceilidhs so lots and lots of dancing. This means I will need very comfortable shoes but also fancy enough to wear to a wedding! (Other option is to wear heels then put cheap pumps on to dance it but it's not really practical for one of the weddings as they won't fit in my bag)

Any suggestions? Guess they need to be flatish (oh joy with my cankles)!

Thanks so much! I don't know what I am wearing yet bit probably a just above the knee dress

Barefoot is the way to go for ceilidh dancing, whether you're wearing a cocktail dress or a ballgown. Anything else risks a broken ankle or falling flat on your arse, esp when it comes to Strip the Willow.

Mmmmmm, see yes normally I just take my shoes off but have had feet trampled on too many times Smile. !

Ah, yes, the foot-trampling thing is indeed an issue.

Perhaps shoes (flat) with a suede sole? A quick google suggests this is a common dance thing, and maybe such shoes would roll up quite small in your handbag?

Oh God no....don't go ceilidh dancing in bare feet....just asking to have your foot impaled by a stiletto...

Would a mid-heel wedge be a good compromise. High enough to feel dressy but with enough support to allow a good dance?

Don't know how much you want to spend, but you could try some actual dance shoes, as they are usually more comfortable and designed to stay on (as in, straps etc)

I would just take some flats to change into if you feel the need. I just ceilidh dance in my heels.

You don't want ballroom dance shoes - they don't have enough grip. Ballet shoes would be fine or some flats that stay on your feet - but be aware that most other people will probably wear heels and trust me when I say that it hurts when you get stamped on - even in ballet flats! Ceilidh dancers generally wear ghillie shoes but they can be quite expensive - I used to take classes and just wore ballet shoes most of the time.

I think I am going to stick a pair of flat pumps in my bag and just swop shoes for the dancing as the pumps aren't very flattering on my tree trunk cankles! [smiles]
