I feel ugly - self indulgent rant

deerkitty · 19/04/2014 12:43

I'm taking roaccutane so my skin is both spotty and dry at the same time. My lips are shedding off so I look like someone has punched me

I feel pale, fat and uninteresting. Had a disastrous date the other night so feel crap about that.

And middle age is fast approaching.

And I've got a sore throat.

Rant over.

so sorry you feel rubbish deer. I just wondered how long you have been taking roaccutane for. I saw a dermatologist on Tuesday (finally) and am waiting for the blood test results to come back before I get the tablets. How are you finding it?
Having reached the age of 34 with no real let up eith acne, I am praying that this is my miracle cure!

deerkitty · 19/04/2014 13:17

I'm on week three and was warned that spots would get worse. I've got 4 huge ones on my face but skin is really flaking off and my lips are really sore.

You have to persevere with it I think so that's what I'm doing.

oh no, they didn't tell me it would get worse first. what moisturiser are you using? didn't they suggest any to help? x

Sorry you feel rubbish. When the roaccutane does its work you'll be so glad you persevered though. Hopefully it is all better from here.

annaban · 19/04/2014 14:49

I might have this totally wrong, but iirc the meds could also be negatively affecting your mood.

Sorry to hear you feel rubbish, but do persevere, I took it years ago, with fantastic results!

I hope you feel better soon, and I am quite sure you feel you look far worse than you actually do, I bet you are being way way too hard on yourself!!

Chin up

Thanks

That's crap Sad Thanks

Can you use Eucerin for the flaky bits, it's a recent discovery and it's miracle in a tube for me.

deerkitty · 19/04/2014 15:40

I'm using clarins day cream and a vitamin e cream and a
Lip balm.

Try Lansinoh lanolin nipple cream for your lips. It's in the baby bit in Boots.

Sorry you're feeling down on yourself. I guarantee you think you look much worse than you actually do and it won't be forever.

DeerKitty:
Something to at least make you laugh:
The last time I felt as you do, I slumped in front of my dressing table mirror and said - outloud - "I feel so damn ugly". DD (then 4) ran into the room, climbed onto my knee, gently stroked my face and said in her most consoling voice: "But mummy, you're not ugly. You're just old."

Hope you feel better soon.

deerkitty · 19/04/2014 16:46

Haha yes I've had before you're not that fat, but you aren't skinny either you're ... Finny.

Thanks

I have been on Roaccutane twice and it is a very tough course of treatment not helped by low mood being one of its side effects. I second the use of Lansinoh on your lips and try Eucerin or Aveeno cream on your face to ease the painful dryness. It's not for long and hopefully before too long your skin problems will be a thing of the past.

lurkingaround · 19/04/2014 18:58

Those days are awful. I find Cake helps.
Roaccutane is bloody brilliant. An initial breakout is common enough, it can be 'sat on' pretty quickly with a short course of antibiotics and steroids. If you have easy access to your consultant to prescribe it, or your GP. It will pass without too. Use the Toleriane range in La Roche Posay for dry skin. I found Eliz Arden smelly 8 hour cream or lip balm the best. Carry it everywhere. The good news is soon your pores will shrink, your skin clear up, more even-toned and it will sort of glow. Honestly. Look forward to it.

And to feeling crap and the awful date? I think we can, all some of us say: 'been there done that'. Shite. Another one crossed off the list!
