bawabod · 18/04/2014 20:56

Sun shining need to get the feet out oops they are in a bad way need to ask what is the most effective fungal nail infection treatment out there.
Sorry to those that may want to throw up as my DH was threatening to do as he spotted my feet and thought he out to make gagging noises as he saw them and commented feet are generally the most unattractive feature on humans anyway !! And a thank you in anticipation of any useful advice from you lovely ladies out there. I have been using tea tree oil neat on them but its clearly not enough.

Isn't Vicks meant to be the GO?

Germgirl · 18/04/2014 21:14

Curanail works albeit very slowly, but it is about £18.
You need to apply it once a week & it should work in about 6 weeks or so.
Where is the infection? At the far end of the nail or by the nail bed?

squoosh · 18/04/2014 21:18

Love the title OP, sounds as though it should be accompanied by a sad face, head tilt photo Grin

Fungal nail infections take at least a year to cure so it will be a slow process.

GrassIsSinging · 18/04/2014 21:26

Been using Vicks on my slightly yellow, fungal big toenails for 6 weeks and seen a big improvement. Not yellow any more and seem to be growing out normally. Amazing! Thought it sounded like bollocks but had tried those fussy 'paint on' fungal treatments before and lost patience with them.

KiaOraOAotearoa · 18/04/2014 22:14

See a podiatrist?

SilverSixpence · 18/04/2014 23:56

Have also seen Vicks or tea tree oil recommended on here, think there is a long thread on it if you search

Otherwise you might be able to get oral antifugals prescribed eg terbinafine

Ruprekt · 18/04/2014 23:59

Vicks is working a treat on my toenail.

Use that for a few weeks, book in to a chiropodist to get rid of dead skin etc

Book in for a shellac pedicure. SmileSmile

wonderpants · 19/04/2014 07:38

I had a course of anti fungal tablets from the GP and all of my feet looked so much better!

Skivvysue · 19/04/2014 07:40

I had a course of anti fungals too and my feet are great now. Curanail won't work if the infection is on more than one nail.

Gillybobs · 19/04/2014 09:01

Go straight to the GP for the oral tablets, work in a few weeks rather than months and months of topical treatments. Honestly, far far quicker and more effective

Martorana · 19/04/2014 09:08

Go to the doctor, get a prescription for proper anti fungals.

And LTB.

steffibabes · 19/04/2014 10:23

Agree with the others who said GP. I had athletes foot and fungal nails and the tablets cleared both up in 3 months. Amazing!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 19/04/2014 13:22

Golden seal tincture-got rid of my 3 year old's fungal nail after the gp had no suggestions. It was really bad and the nail had crumbled away. Took a couple of weeks.

polyhymnia · 19/04/2014 13:46

My podiatrist says that the only thing that really works is a course if prescription tablets.

coffeeinbed · 19/04/2014 13:58

Tablets don't always work and can bugger up your liver.

flamingtoaster · 19/04/2014 14:12

Vicks works very well, as does white distilled vinegar (which makes the nail too acidic for the fungus to grow). For either you need to keep the nails very short - even cutting back down the side if the nail is detached so that the Vicks or vinegar can get right to the fungus. Both work - apply twice a day.

polyhymnia · 19/04/2014 14:20

In fact, out of concern either for possible side effects or spending his budget on non- essentials, my GP wouldn't prescribe, so I just did nothing but hide then away for the winter and now a year later they are restored to normal pinkness. The condition turned out to be self-limiting. But a year is a long time and that's not much help to you now!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 19/04/2014 14:23

I've heard about cider vinegar before working well.

trixymalixy · 19/04/2014 15:14

I tried everything, vicks, tea tee oil, prescribed curabail. A course of tablets from my GP was the only thing that worked.

EasterSundaySimmons · 20/04/2014 08:12

I cwouldn't find a UK seller at the time so I ordered it from USA.

Nonyx nail gel made by xenna.

It removes and stops the build up of keratin debris that a nail fungus causes and it restores the appearance of unsightly nails to clear and healthy looking.

Kundry · 20/04/2014 08:51

Terbinafine (from ChemistDirect).

Tea tree oil was a 10 year waste of time. Only wasted 4 years on the Curanail.

Some chiropodists do laser as well.
