Top-to-toe beauty - DIY?

Just looked at my local salon and the price for a facial, body scrub, manicure and pedicure is £170 - admittedly it's an Elemis salon but surely I can do it myself for about £150 less!

What would you use and how would you go about having a top-to-toe day?

I certainly wouldn't attempt doing all of that in one day, but then I have a toddler running around so time is scarce. I find the Sanctuary salt scrub (you can buy it in a sachet from Boots if you don't want to buy the whole jar) really effective as an all over body scrub. You just use it in the shower. Do you have a local college near you? There's one near me where the students are training to do pedicures, manicures, etc.. and their prices are extremely cheap. Might help to bring the overall cost down so that you can splurge on the Elemis facial?

Thanks for the scrub recommendation. I'm confident to do it all myself - just wondered what product to use and how to go about the order of things.

Elemis facial is a lovely splurge but my face never looks any different, just love the relaxing 75 minutes especially the facial massage.

I recently got a pedicure and was disappointed. I can do a better job myself with boots foot cream after a metal file remover.

Nails - I find it hard to best shellac so I would get them done at a salon. I tint my brows myself.

After a long soak, scrub I would apply a moisturiser with tan

How does this sound as a logical order?

Wash hair apply conditioning pack
Deep cleanse - facial scrub - face mask
Apply body scrub - soak off in bath
Wash off hair mask and face mask
Descale heels
Apply body oil/lotion
File nails, push back cuticles
Apply polish to fingers and toes

Does that work?

Product recommendations gratefully received!

It's a treat for the day before my 50th if that helps explain my goal, I'd like to be all shiny and buffed :)

I'm alo disappointed by pedicures at a salon mrs. I'm much rougher on myself and far more effective at poking my cuticles!

How did you get on with your spa day at home ? :)

flewlady · 19/04/2014 11:19

I haven't had it yet mrs! I'm still at the planning stage and collecting product recommendations Grin

It's for the day before my 50th so I'm all shiny on the day!

i'd be exhausted after doing all that! but it must feel great. i really need some maintenance though.... got a new pale blue nail polish so will start with my feet and hands... maybe next week do the scrub and tan!

happy 50th :)

I would also be exhausted if I tried to do everything on one day Grin
Some of the salt-in-oil body scrubs leave your skin with a 'coated' feeling so I'd do them a couple of days before then a rich moisturising bubbly wash the day before.

Use the foot file on your heels the night before (when your skin is dry) then use cream and put socks on.

And I file my nails before a bath (but the cuticles after) because my nails are soft anyway.

Are you waxing/epilating or any other such grizzly stuff?

flewlady · 21/04/2014 17:52

I'll be epilating the day before. Good tips, maybe the key is a good scrub and facial on the day and a pedicure/manicure the day before.

It is exhausting now you mention it! I planned to mix it with a half bottle of Prosecco for company Grin
