Plus trs so slim

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 06/05/2014 19:33

Wow - excellent news!!! You must be so thrilled that you found it. Good looking, affordable wool suiting = v rare. I keep trying to get to Oxford St to see if they have it at that Next. I might just have to order it to try it on.

I found another workwear blog, from the US: veronabrit.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/OOTD

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/05/2014 19:43

Suit looks lovely. I'll want a new skirt suit soon - black, really fitted jacket, Vivienne-esque. M&S used to do brilliant ones, but all rubbish now.

EduardoBarcelona · 06/05/2014 19:47

Budget - M&S!
Young - I'm not, but prefer young looking to too corporate.

Dream

I had a fabulous wool suit from Next I bought for my first professional job. It was about £100 so cheap as chips for what it was. I gave it to a MNer on a swap thread as it no longer fitted. I'm pleased to hear they're doing them again.

FoxyHarlow123 · 06/05/2014 20:13

She's a bit K Middy! Great blog - love her look. She has an amazing figure though - so easy to make clothes look stylish when you have the raw material.

EduardoBarcelona · 06/05/2014 20:48

If marks are selling shoes for 200£ they can do suits as nice as the next one

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 06/05/2014 21:08

You should be able to get the suit AND the shoes for £200 from M&S [stingy].

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/05/2014 21:19

Damn right, Belinda!

KosherBacon · 07/05/2014 14:57

Help! I've just come back from trying on work trousers and it's been a fail. I'm a pear, 41" hip and am on the lookout for ankle length trousers with a skimming for rather than a slim/ tight fit. Inspired by Belinda's blog I tried on the Gap straight crops, the H&M chinos and Banana Republic Hampton crops. All of them gape at the hip pockets.

Are there any straight leg ankle skimmers, cut for average waists but big hips without hip pockets?

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 07/05/2014 15:30

Lurking said a page ago that she is a pear and that these fit her well? No pockets that I can see (on phone) or remember m.hm.com/gb/product/25786?article=25786-A but I think they are slim fit?

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 07/05/2014 15:31

You tried the Gap slim crops? Not true straights, Kosher?

KosherBacon · 07/05/2014 15:38

Nope, they didn't have them in the Trafford Centre, Belinda. TBH that shop is like a jumble sale these days, they can't keep up with their constant sales and voucher codes, and it bugs me that the website is more expensive than instore.

I looked at the H&M ones and didn't like the satin finish on the trousers. They looked like they'd catch the light and emphasise the widest point of my hips.

HazleNutt · 07/05/2014 15:46

I have the same problem, so if I find a pair that I otherwise like, I just sew the pockets shut.

lurkingaround · 07/05/2014 16:06

Yes! I hate those slanty pockets and I ALWAYS sew them down, really unflattering on me.Like Hazle, if the trews are otherwise good, I buy and sew down.

I have those H&M trousers, on me today in fact. I know what you mean by catching the light but when you wear them there's no great sheen off them. I really like them. They are quite slim fitting, but no pockets and side zips make them good for pears, as long as you have a flatish tummy, They are ankle length on me. Even good ole H commented on how flattering they are. And he notices NOTHING unless it's dramatically good (or bad).
Gap true straight are also good, size down.
The JAPO Mango ones are a nice shape and fit too, I will be purchasing in navy. Belinda really rates them, size down 1 if not more sizes. They have no sheen.

lurkingaround · 07/05/2014 16:10

Forgot: Yes, no pockets on the H&M trews. I do wear a belt with them, but they are quite a good fit on my waist, even without a belt. Def worth a go.

EduardoBarcelona · 07/05/2014 16:35

Sew hip pockets shut

EduardoBarcelona · 07/05/2014 16:36

Southampton h and m ok. Our local one - shit

EduardoBarcelona · 07/05/2014 16:36

I have gap straight. They shrink length wise. Link to h and m ones

Stokey · 07/05/2014 16:51

I'm wearing the Mango ones in navy today Lurking, very comfy and flattering (but do have pockets). Was just thinking I could have gone a size lower in them.
I bought their ballet flats at the same time , reduced to £22.99, and at first wear have 4 plasters on my feet Hmm

I tried on some Gap chinos yesterday which made my hips look like an elephant's were rather unflattering.

Stokey · 07/05/2014 16:52

I bought the cream/silver ones not the black, they are pretty (if impractical)

lurkingaround · 07/05/2014 17:26

Pretty ballet flats, lovely for the summer. Good price in the sale. Shame about the blisters!

Do the JAPO trews go very baggy over the day Stokey?

LaTrucha · 07/05/2014 20:05

I tried on th GAP slim crops and they looked much more than terrible on me. The M&S 7/8ths trousers in a cotton sateen are great for me.

KosherBacon · 07/05/2014 20:07

LaTrucha- are you a pear? What are they like on the thigh?
