So what do you consider a real indulgence?

I suspect I'm odd - no really

But I'll happily spend on clothes, bags etc and have hair done regularly but I really feel like I'm being madly indulgent if I get my nails done.

So what things do you just very rarely spend money on even if you could afford to?

I also hate buying socks and end up in mismatched horrid ones too often because I just find buying them boring and depressing.

I don't mind socks - I mainly buy little frilly or lacy ones from Topshop, Accessorize or M&S. I do feel that if one has to wear socks, they should at least be pretty socks.

I have never got my nails done, and don't think I'd be likely to. I like Revlon cheapo nail varnish.

I don't really understand the expensive bag thing at all. Have never spent more than £60 on a bag, and that was for my birthday.

Yep, get all my socks from H&M. I'm also not a big spender on underwear though I do try and buy decent stuff on the cheap in the Selfridges sale.

Also only really buy cheap lipstick - will spend a bomb on foundation, concealer, mascara etc but always supersrug level lippy.

Weirdly I consider getting my hair done a real indulgence which considering it is about £70, which I will merrily spend on a t-shirt, seems odd.

I won't spend more than £40 on a top but think nothing of £2-300 on jeans and more on handbags

only buy £20 odd, a pair jeans
no designer handbags either.

I spend the most on hair products and getting my hair done and never buy the cheapest mascara/foundation, but other make-up can be cheaper stuff.

I will spend on nice jackets and boots too - but as I have a wardrobe full already I wont be this year! (I'm on a no spending on clothes challenge)

Facials, hair colouring and massages are all v indulgent to me.

Oh yes massages - I think I've had 2 in my life and both when suffering with back pain when pregnant.

I'm also a bit mean about underwear and like you Amber wait for the sales.

And totally not s&b but I begrudge every single tank of diesel and stand there thinking 'that's a new top'.

I regard everything as an indulgence really, I remember being really skint (never to the point the bills weren't paid or food was short but not having any disposable income) and I still get a thrill from buying anything nice.

DH , mrscb, has discovered a group called the British sock fetish council and has gone loopy on socks and retro trainers. He's buying limited edition socks and all sorts, in bright striped colours at £12 a pop. THAT'S indulgence to me.

I will spend on foundation, moisturiser, perfume, but never on mascara.

I bought a pair of running socks the other day. TWELVE POUNDS FIFTY. I'm still going on about it.

Pedicures are a staple.

Manicure and massage a luxury for me.

My DH is also funny about socks - I just don't get it. He literally couldn't wear non-matching socks.

12.50 for running socks - honestly Amber, you could have bought a bit of a bench for that

Saving up for stuff is good - the things that have had most wear/longevity in my wardrobe are the things I had to wait to get.

Also oddly find it hard to spend more than £150 on a pair of shoes/boots, even if I'll live in them, yet I have £800 hand bag and would happily spend £200 on a bag, which if you think about it, doesn't matter in the same way as shoes do to your general health if they aren't quite right...

Amber, do you think it's not the money, but the time and being pampered that makes getting yoru hair done feel like an indulgence if you are spending about that on t-shirts?

I seem to categorise massages and mani/pedis as indulgences, too. I don't do facials, either. However, my hair colouring appointments are non negotiable.

Cocktails, sparkles (jewellery) and taxis are all essentials, too .

I don't spend that much on any items of clothing, or bags, but I buy a lot, I think, although it's all relative.

I think it's probably that essentially I just get a trim, so that really it seems a lot to cut an inch off my hair. I need to go now really but I keep putting it off. It's ridiculous really because we can afford it comfortably.

I've never had a pedicure now I come to think about it (aside from freebies at blogging events).

I'm still annoyed about those socks - I lift my el cheapo sports direct jobbers at home and was held to ransom by runners need.

No problem with shoes. The sky is the limit there. Costume jewellery is another I can't spend on. I'm the opposite of Belinda, which is probably why she has a much more interesting collection of statement necklaces than me!

I had a nail paint and pedicure yesterday, but used a gift voucher.

I consider a blow out to be a salon colour when I know I can do it myself, or a spray tan (love them though)

It depends whether you are talking about saving for a bag that costs a few hundred pounds or if you have to save up to be able to buy a £25 pair of jeans.

I feel indulgent buying expensive shower gels and oils, mainly because of the whole 'don't spend on what you wash down the drain' saying but if I buy lovely gel or oil I don't need perfume as the fragrance lasts all day. I also don't spend on body creams etc as I hate the way scent comes across in a cream and I can't be bothered putting it on so I figure it evens out but it still feels extravagant!
