I've seen some fab necklaces on blogs recently that have been bought on Etsy for a cheap price. Just wondered if it's worth ordering or are they just cheap and nasty products???

It really depends on the seller. Etsy is a collection of different craftspeople selling their stuff. Quality will vary.

Have you nabbed any bargains?

I've had some great bits and pieces. I usually use Folksy instead though as it's UK based so postage is much cheaper and things get to me quicker

IncognitoIsMyFavouriteWord · 11/04/2014 08:10

Does folksy have an app? Smile

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 11/04/2014 08:16

Have bought a few things from Etsy which have all been lovely. Watch out though an embroidered Kindle Case I bought in the US got stung with customs charges.

OneLittleLady · 11/04/2014 08:24

Not sure if Folksy has an app, I've never looked for one. Might be worth a look though

BreakOutTheKaraoke · 11/04/2014 09:02

Yes, it does Incognito.

I've been stung with customs charges too. I did get a lovely hair grip from Australia for my wedding and a really stocking for DD's first Christmas.

goodasitgets · 11/04/2014 13:59

I've had some gorgeous stuff off there, hair grips, tops for the gym
The best was a patchwork blanket, I wanted a specific fabric, she made it and it's stunning

I've bought a few things from etsy - accessories mostly, all fine and reasonable.

I've just ordered a handmade cover for my Ikea sofa from a fab lady in Bulgaria - the only shop in the UK I could find wanted twice the price!

Miggsie · 11/04/2014 14:40

DH is an ETSY fan and we have paid custom charges - but for a bespoke handbag it was worth it!

Never had a bad experience but with all shops there is a small risk of cheap goods that don't last, however, ETSY survives because people keep coming back so it isn't in the seller's interests to produce tat.

The stuff we buy is highly individual and really good so far!!!!

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 11/04/2014 14:41

Watch out, some of the jewellery is nasty mass produced tatt. (As dd found out when she got some. Identical in Urban outfitters two weeks later)

CecyHall · 11/04/2014 14:58

I got some amazing vintage 90's (although I refuse to believe 90's is vintage!) clumpy soled shoes, unworn from USA, not very style and beauty type but I loved them. Didn't pay customs as the seller ticked gift.

There are a lot of interesting things on there but also a lot of cheap stuff from China/Korea etc, like eBay I guess.

bluesbaby · 11/04/2014 15:49

I've got some amazing things from etsy.

Rollypoly100 · 11/04/2014 18:00

I bought a handmade ceramic cat fountain which is beautiful. Customs charges were a bit high. Hope the cat will drink from it when the weather gets warmer!

jumblebee · 11/04/2014 18:25

I bought a knitted yoda hat from Etsy and it's lovely! But never bought anything else on there. I guess it depends on the seller.
