This sounds even to stupid to write...but I will plough on.

My DS is my first baby, so I am completely new to all this! He is 15 weeks old, very long and over 7kg already. He is in 3-6 months clothes, but they are already getting short in the body, so I am looking to buy the next size up 6-9 months, for wear over the late spring / summer months.

Looking in the shops, all the clothes are shorts, bib shorts or short sleeved and short legged romper suits. I can't imagine that it ever gets warm enough to have the arms, legs and little feet unclothed - or am I just so worn down by the cold, wet winter that my view is warped!

Should I stick with long legged dungarees and alternate the short and long sleeved vests underneath as my common sense brain is suggesting, or do babies really wear shorts!

Many thanks in advance

Yes they do wear shorts. He will probably need them in August, or the end of July. you can put them over tights if it is colder, unless that seems too girly?

Our little boy is in very big clothes too

I have lots of gifts jeans, tracksuit bottoms so only planning on a few pairs of shorts. Can always throw them in the wash of an evening ready for the day again

Have you looked at H&M bottoms ? They look ideal

When it was that hot I just put popper vests on mine . Saved buying a whole new wardrobe for the 3 hours of summer one tends to get.

My DS was born in the summer 2006 heatwave. He worn just short sleeve vests in the house and short rompers outside fron the day he was born.
It was 38 degrees the day he was born noway did he need long sleeves and legs.

Yes, when it is hot!

Tigresswoods · 07/04/2014 17:53

Oh yes. The cutest thing is a sweaty baby sleeping in just a nappy.

Just you wait.

Thanks for all the help! I'm guessing that one or two pairs will do the trick, and he can wear his vest the rest of the time.... should the sun shine!

Summer seems such a long way off! But you are right... I can't wait to see him in the sunshine
