It's the heavy line all the way around the eye that's the problem, imho. Not the colour per se.

She doesn't need it. It ages her and looks hard. I think it - together with the heels - are a kind of security blanket to her. She seems afraid to be seen without them.

I agree about security blanket-she wants a reliable look she knows she can do, and can always fall back on. If I lived under that degree of scrutiny, I would too.
