Y'all know about Zara sizing right?

I've seen a lot of complaints about it and I wondered myself (I am usually a M in there) so I delved into the size charts. It turns out that a S = 8 M = 10 L = 12

This means that many of their items only come in sizes 8-12, which is ridiculous.

I know I need an xl jacket. The odd thing is the length of the trousers. Now I've been to Spain. They aren't tall folk

PrincessOfChina · 07/04/2014 12:37

I think I was told once (about 15 years ago!) that the trousers were so long as they offered a tailoring service. I suspect this is no longer the case although I haven't asked as I a 14 and therefore NOT WELCOME.

Darkchocsprinkles · 07/04/2014 12:37

Whew.

I thought I just happened to be enormously fat every time I tried to shop there Grin

FairPhyllis · 07/04/2014 12:42

It is known for running small on its sizing. I had to change a jacket I bought there at the weekend - I was deluding myself that I could fit into their S.

It is a Spanish brand so I assume its clothes are made for petite Spanish women. It is tricky finding stuff that fits if you are broad shouldered.

Walnut8 · 07/04/2014 12:44

Makes sense - I'm always trying to squeeze into a small but am def more a 10 than an 8. Is medium usually a 12 or am I deluded?

Walnut8 · 07/04/2014 12:45

(In other stores I mean)

pseudonymity · 07/04/2014 12:48

Yes M is normally a 12.

I usually wear S in their Woman range shirts and trousers, M in the jackets, sometimes a L in the coats. If I go upstairs TRF, then I am an 8 (36) in the jeans and usually L in the jackets. It can differ, according to the individual item, though. Makes sense, right Hmm

They do offer an alterations service - £6 to have jeans taken up, haven't done trousers.

Legologgo · 07/04/2014 13:15

i am a 12 in the jeans and EXTRA NORMOUs in anything on the top half

madness

theladylovescupcakes · 07/04/2014 13:53

That makes me feel heaps better. I'm a size 14 but tall, so really need an XL. Does nothing for helping me feel good about my size/shape!

Bearleigh · 07/04/2014 13:53

I am an 8 and fit their S perfectly in most things - but not everything. I think that's about right - it's daft that in Gap I am usually a 2, and have even been a 0. Vanity sizings help no-one - what would someone slimmer than me (and there are plenty) do in Gap?

At my weight 20 years ago I'd be a 12 - I know this because I still have a few old things from then and can no longer fit into a 10.

capet · 07/04/2014 15:38

I thought that gap sizes were American so a 6 there is really a uk 10?
Zara stuff is all over the place size wise

areyoutheregoditsmemargaret · 07/04/2014 15:54

I'm a 10 and can't get my ankle into a Zara small trousers, the M is pushing it. Very odd.

AmericasTorturedBrow · 07/04/2014 16:01

I'm generally an 8-10 but in US GAP am a 2, it's stupid

I love Zara's length, finally I don't have to find the "actually not particularly freakishly tall bit any leg length above 29" is weird" section

ToastedTeacakes · 07/04/2014 17:51

I'm narrow shouldered so Zara coats and jackets in XS are perfect for me. It beats Topshop, and I am able to dress like a grown up at last!

But that's just coats and tops.
For skirts, pants and dresses I find their small is ok, but feel better in medium. Kinda like H&M?
I don't think they're cut too small though, just more than what I am used to at Next, M&S, etc.

Primark are the worst! I saw a pair of jeans in there today that defied basic anatomy...possibly aimed at tweens, I dunno! Their clothes and shoes are super tiny.

libertytrainers · 07/04/2014 17:53

i am 14/16 and large usually fits unless it's a jacket, coat, shirt

gandalfcat · 07/04/2014 17:59

I find their earrings in XL fit just fine!!
