Perfume Help

I really love Vanilla scents but I don't want to smell like a cake shop.

My favourite fragrance ever is Jo Malone Vanilla and Anise.

Recently I bought Dior Hypnotic Poison. Very vanilla, but I think a little too sweet, maybe too young.

I've been wearing other scents (Miss Dior, Violet Blonde, Balenciaga, Chloe), but don't love them and am constantly looking for something to match my Jo Malone. I like 'proper' perfumes. Any suggestions of other things I can try?

I love Bvlgari Eau de Tea. It is hard to get but has the most wonderfully distinctive fragrance. Light for summer.
A nice fragrance for evening is Manifesto by YSL.

Thanks Buzzard. What colour bottle does it come in? The google results are a bit confusing.

Chanel no 5 I love it definitely my new signature lol, it is more floral though but a real classic.

If you like a vanilla that isn't too sweet, you might like Jeux de Peau by Serge Lutens. There are some reviews of it here.

I own Chanel No5 but I often find it too floral and possibly too heavy.

I will look into the Serge Lutens one.

Diptyque Philosykos often comes up as a suggestion but I haven't got around to trying it yet.

The Bvlgari one is in a clear bottle with a squarish top and the the YSL one is easier to find. The bvlgari one I have to order on-line as I think they only stock it in Harrods.

Have you tried Monotheme Vanilla Blossom? M&S stock it and I absolutely love it - not too sweet.

Hypnotic Poison is pretty complex and heavy hitting and I perceive it more almondy than a straight up vanilla.

For me, the ultimate Vanilla is Spiritueuse Double Vanille from Guerlain (pricey); Vanille Intense from Nicolai and Vanille Narcisse from L'Occitane may be some of the best budget options. Also loving right now a vanilla-heavy Shalimar flanker (Mexique). All ambery perfumes tend to include vanilla and Coromandel from Chanel is a crowd-pleaser.

Read this blog post, some great ideas about anisic vanillas there, samples from Les Senteurs and Surrender to Chance. Douce Amere (anise/absinthe vanilla) by Serge Lutens is amazing. Vanilla Insensee might work better in summer.
