Going to Amsterdam for a few days v soon - what should I pack? Flat shoes only? Rain coat? Inspire me please!

Amsterdam is a very relaxed city style wise. Yes to flats (lots of cobbles) and yes to raincoat (although to hear Dutch DH moaning about UK weather you would think he came from a tropical climate Hmm )

I would go with jeans/trousers & tops rather than skirts & dresses.

Thank you. :) I'm wondering whether to take a skirt or dress for evenings, but we won't be doing anything upmarket - just drinking Amstel, I imagine!

I'm sightseeing in Italy soon.

I'm taking:
Trainers (Adiddas gazelles in Royal blue)
I pair nude ballet pumps
Bf jeans
Black skinnies
A few sweatshirts and light knits, maybe a t shirt
Trench coat
Cross body bag (with grab handle so I can look smarter if needed)
A couple of statement necklaces
A scarf or 2

That'll do for day and the occasional casual night out.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/03/2014 20:09

Thanks.

I'm thinking (four days):
Light rain coat (parka shape)
Leather Converse
Chelsea boots
Leopard ballet shoes
Blue skinnies
Black skinny cargo trousers
Tube skirt or jersey dress
Sweatshirt
Cotton jumper
A 'nice' top to dress the skinnies up a bit
Biker jacket
Couple of scarves
A necklace to dress the sweatshirt up a bit

Thanks, Dry and Ujjayi.

Ding - that cardigan looks nice but v expensive.

Not what you're looking for but these are quite nice.

I've also got a cropped trench, but I don't think I'll take it as I feel better in my biker!

Hobbs usually have plain navy ballet shoes.

I like this and am considering buying it in black.

Ooh this thread is timely, I'm off shortly too. Shall share my list which will help me actually plan! 3 nights in Europe.

I've provisionally packed

Dark indigo superskinnies
Distressed relaxed skinnies
Black brogues with wooden sole
Navy trench
Cream sweatshirt with embroidered design on front
Navy and white striped jumper
Teal silk blouse with navy dots
Bubblegum pink marl tee
Tomato red silky cowl neck top for 'out' with dark superskinnies
Me and Em aubergine ruched dress for 'out'
Black cage heels for 'out'
Matte silver chunky statement necklace

I want to buy a scarf with tomato red as main colour to snazz up navy trench. Bought and returned an MBMJ one last year that would have been perfect, darnit.

I want to take my leather biker too to wear with Me and Em dress, but 2 coats is clearly overkill for 3 nights away or is it

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/04/2014 19:55

Where's your pink t-shirt from? Have been looking for a bright pink top for ages.

I did Edinburgh recently in trench coat, dark skinny jeans and a change of underwear. I must have had a top or tops of some kind but can't remember what they were and have no pictures without the coat so can't check. Honest,y I thought I'd packed light but didn't use most things. Was a revelation for me. I now probably under-pack.

Agree with flats, you (I do anyway) tend to walk lots on city breaks. A stable pair of wedges might also be ok for extra height.

Think both op and jumped's lists sound good though.

Op you could add non crushable midi skirt...maybe substitute for one of the trousers....just in case you were in a skirt mood?

TheJumped · 02/04/2014 20:19

Primark! It's really lovely, the perfect shade of pink for me, bright but not cold or neon. I think it's 100% polyester though or poly cotton mix - I like that though as it's really soft and drapey and washes perfectly. It's got slight rolled sleeves, and nice and long in the body. Was £4. I'll also be taking my £1 Primark sunnies which are basically perfect.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/04/2014 20:21

Am thinking of a Whistles tube skirt - I pretty much live in them anyway!
