Facial hair advice please

My poor dil is only 23 and has really excessive facial hair. It's dark and fairly long and ink her lips chin and cheeks.
She has seen the dr who tested for pcos which was negative but that's it and it wasn't pursued.
I feel so sorry for her, she is training to be a hairdresser and so appearance is important to her.
I'm going to go to the gp with her and ask for a referral to maybe a dermatologist or someone who could help, but am I wasting my time?
I told her I would post on here to see if anyone has any experience of this.

did she have blood tests or internal scan done?
I spent years trying to tell my gp something wasnt right, and they kept doing blood tests and saying all fine until I went private..the bllod tests werent fine ( never wer my gp was useles!!) and I was diagnosed within hours with severe case of pcos ( no periods, hairy face, neck, weight gaine etc). So if I was you id insist on seeing a specialist or ask for the scan.

Laser hair removal really helped me with this. I too have PCOS symptoms, but it I don't have abnormal hormone levels, etc. LHR is expensive, there's no two ways about it, but it can literally be life changing. I had 4 sessions, 1 month apart for each. If I remember correctly, it was £80 each time (mine was a small patch). It worked brilliantly right from the first session - I would say about 50% of the hair, if not more! went after the first time. I probably could have got away with having 3 sessions really. Now, one year on, I have the odd hair that I can pluck out. They do say you may need to go back again for top up sessions, perhaps once a year, which I would be happy to do if I need to.

One of the main factors for success is having pale skin and dark hair - what colouring does your DIL have?

Honestly, I cannot recommend it highly enough - the embarrassment of the hair ( my mum says she never even noticed, but I think that's because i hid it very well, which was mega stressful!) is just awful. I went to Skin, and they were pretty good.

Laser hair removal works well if the hair is dark and the skin pale. If your DD colouring suits it then it will help a lot. It is expensive but effective. You have to go to a proper laser place though, some places use other things that aren't as good. Good luck.

Hi Ledkir agree with OP. My DD has PCOS. She had a severe facial hair problem. Her GP referred her to dermatologist who in turn referred her for laser hair removal on NHS. It was the best thing EVER! She attended for 18 months treatment is carried out on a three monthly basis. It is painful but really worth it. She goes now for maintenance and attends a private practitioner who uses a medical grade laser. I would request a dermatology referral and go from there. Good Luck :)

I know she has a coil? Could it be that?

I will go to the drs with her and ask for the referral, it's not right leaving a young girl like this it really isn't, I know someone who has had two boob jobs so I'm going to fight her corner.

Also, just want to add - my biggest regret is not going sooner. The hair won't go away by itself and it can be devastating on self-confidence. Don't let her put up with it, as unwanted facial hair for women is just a step too far!

when you go to gp I know they have a cream that can be used for facial hair, Ive never tried it as when i had the problem also was trying for a baby ( and cream isnt suitable when ttc).
Dont let them send you home with nothing, I had laser treatment privately too only because my gp kept saying n othign cant be done!!

Ledkr - I have had scans, blood tests, I ovulate regularly etc, but all my symptoms are textbook PCOS. The doctors didn't dismiss mine as I also have other auto-immune health problems, however the most effective way to manage this condition is by self-help. Diet and exercise are very important (low GI diet), so even if the doctor is dismissive, your DIL will be able to manage most of the side effects of this condition herself.

Saurus well said. I did low GI diet and it was the best diet for me , also trying to eat organic as mcuh as possible makes a huge difference.
