Over here all........

Crem, oh no, your poor dad and poor all of you. Hope things improve for him quickly.

Addle, I read your post about you and lalsy sending your dss off with oysters and thought "My ds wouldn't know what to do with an oyster. Is this another area in which I have failed as a parent?". Then I realised what type of oyster you meant. Blush Grin

I also though Wilbur said she purchased a small snail in Ikea. Grin

Herbs, it sounds like yesterday went very well, all things considered.

Re: packing - dh previously spent many years married to someone who did all his packing. (And all the cleaning) You wouldn't think that packing for yourself was a particularly hard skill to learn, would you? Apparently, it is more tricky than one might think. Dh has variously forgotten to pack any pants, socks, pjs and once forgot to take a coat. To Scotland, in January. It is always a joy finding out what he has managed to forget. Not.

In S&B news my cardies have arrived. THey are fabulous colours and with a few buttons undone (top and bottom) look pretty good over jeans. The yellow shows a more than vestigial hint of muffin-top underneath - a rolly bulge beneath the fabric - but frankly the vintage yellow is too nice to send back. If all else fails I will hope to distract with cleavage Grin

Blackduck · 17/04/2014 13:21

Cremo so sorry to hear about your dad.

BTM - Waterloo works for me - anyone else?

Dp's idea of packing is to aim clothes at bag and then sit on it until it zips shut..... the bottom of any bag is usually a layer of heavy books....

DH is still stuck in the student traveller mentality. Sadly this doesn't account for our high-maintenance DD or DS's trainer fetish or my normal amount of clothing/family toiletries, etc and there's an argument about baggage allowance every time we go away.

MI, the cardi's sound great. Thought it was supposed to be hot and sunny todayConfused

motherinferior · 17/04/2014 13:56

Oh great, appear to be starting another period Angry

hattymattie · 17/04/2014 17:34

Crem - so sorry about your Dad, fingers crossed for an upswing

Here it is suddenly boiling, like high summer, feels lots colder inside than out.

I have tried to replicate a lentil, haddock and poached egg salad that I had in a restaurant and thought was fabulous. Mine is not quite the same - and I've discovered that I've no idea how to poach an eggBlush.

cremeggafoam · 17/04/2014 17:46

Thanks all. Ddad breathing a little easier today, and they have moved him from ICU . Poor my looks haggard and is still refusing any suggested help from dsis and me, which is very hard . I have sat with dad all day today and am now meeting friends for a large restorative pint. Wouldn't normally go out mid week or partake of alcohol tbh but I am feeling the need of a non-hospital based social life.Confused

hattymattie · 17/04/2014 18:00

Go for it Crem.

bigTillyMint · 17/04/2014 18:39

Crem it's a medicinal pint - don't feel guilty.

Is that you who posted the definition the verb "to study" on FB Stropps? I sent it to DD1 she is not impressedSmile said I had to leave her alone - by text iron ironically.

Stropperella · 17/04/2014 19:32

Yes, it was me, Hatty :) I don't think dd has seen it yet as she hasn't thrown anything at me.

addle · 17/04/2014 20:47

Rudy - am off to Brecon tomorrow - utterly beautiful but the wettest place in the British Isles ... and no internet

Enjoy your pint Crem, sometimes it really is just medicinal. My dad ended up in hospital mid week last week when my DH was away and I had a glass or two of red wine when the day was over because I really, really needed to switch off.

Off to FB to check this definition

Woo hoo, Rudy's dh!!!!

I could do some closed invite thing on fb (that only teenagers know how to do), or just send me your emails and I'll pass it on. I'm worried I'll miss the non-fb people.

Crem, I hope your Dad picks up again tomorrow. No guilt please about Wine.

bigTillyMint · 17/04/2014 22:10

Aah, is he feeling guilty Rudy?!

Addle, we spent a week camping with our bezzies in Bercon back when the DC hadn't heard of the internet. We did wholesome stuff like bike riding and crossing streams in welliesSmile

Grin Ruby - as long as the puppy was the culprit?

DS came back from the cinema earlier with two mates, and they have decided to sleep outside on the trampoline tonight. Nutters. I wouldn't put money on them still being out there in the morning.

hattymattie · 18/04/2014 08:21

I'm sniggering at the pooey slipper.

CV - DD1 had a sleepover on a trampoline a couple of years ago. They'd made it into a tent. From what I remember they came in at about 4 am freezing.

I went out for a meal for a friend's 50th and met a whole group of really nice people who I'd not known before. Confirmed to me that I'm not weird and restored my faith in humanity which I'd rapidly been losing at this end of the town. I think I've said this before but the problem with an expat community is that all sorts are thrown together by virtue of nationality and may have strictly nothing else in common.

Blackduck · 18/04/2014 08:32

Rudy :) re puppy...

Beachy do you own a huge field or something? I am not sure I could ever convince dp to sleep in a tent with or without the aid of wine..... He's strictly a four walls man.

We are putting niece (13) and ds (10) on the train to london this morning (wibble)......but it does mean five child free days :)

bigTillyMint · 18/04/2014 10:49

Rudy, eeeuuuwwwGrin

God CV, they will have frozen to death if they didn't come in!

BD, they will be fine - it's an adventure, like Beachyboys!

I don't know if I will be able to persuade my lot - apart from their coaching/matches, DD will no doubt want to socialise with her mates, never mind the fact that our camping stuff has been stuffed at the back of our loft space since 2011Grin

Stropperella · 18/04/2014 10:57

Dh is so keen to go to camping he has practically packed his rucksack already. Grin This is at least partly because several years ago I bought a giant tent and loads of camping gear, we went away for a weekend and I hated it because I had to do all the work and it was cold and uncomfortable. So we haven't been since. But we will be soon Grin

Blackduck · 18/04/2014 15:06

They arrived in one piece although we nearly missed getting them on the train!!!
