I'm off the ladyjogging for a few days in hope I start feeling a bit less utterly wiped - am really at that point where exercise does not give you energy so am building up strength with buns instead

NUFC69 · 14/04/2014 11:53

QQ, that's so not good. Newspaper was today's Telegraph - just a small piece, but interesting, nevertheless.

This morning's sunshine has departed. I have just been to the baker's and now DGD is asleep in pushchair outside conservatory window while I watch her like a hawk. DGS is out scooting with GD. He (GS) did ask me this morning why GDad knew everything. Shock Poor deluded boy. Grin

MI, missing the jogging sounds like a good idea to me for the short term.

bigTillyMint · 14/04/2014 12:39

Just got my daily exercise - climbing the 300? steps up the mini Eiffel tower on Petrin hill and back down then even further down the hill. We have had to stop at a cute little pub to recuperateSmile

CointreauVersial · 14/04/2014 13:19

Ooh, QQ, I would have been very Angry at the holiday deserter. What does your DH do? (in case it's something hugely essential, like running the country, in which case congratulate him on his commitment Grin).

Ruby - Airbrush Legs is very good - it looks scary out of the bottle but rubbed in well and the remnants smeared all over my towel this morning after my shower

I was out ladyjogging this morning, road-testing my new sports bra. I realised the other day that my old one dated back to 1992, so thought it was high time I upgraded to something that actually had some functioning elastic.

Blackduck · 14/04/2014 14:14

Oh forgot to say friend did London Marathon in 4 hours.... (I think I hate her :) )

I have dragged my children to Aldi. They cheered up along the way - DD2 with the purchase of a silicone castle cake mould (she has a friend over tomorrow and they are going to Do Baking - frankly it's cheaper than most forms of entertainment!), DD1 with the purchase of various tops in the charity shop (that's my girl) and both with the purchase of the second Hobbit movie on DVD. I cheered up with the purchase of a bottle of pink fizz.

hattymattie · 14/04/2014 14:42

ooh now there's a plan - The Hobbit and pink fizzy - will wait for horrible weather and cuddle up with DS. As I recall there was a very handsome character at LaketownSmile

cremolafoam · 14/04/2014 19:05

Evening all. Just trying to catchup on lemon frocks and Easter jollys to locations various . QQ you are a saint. I'd have lost the rag tbh. Can't even bear it when dh packs enough tech to launch a missile for 3 days in Donegal.
Things here have been a bit grim- dad re/admitted to hospital with Other Things( worrying) but is getting out tomorrow we hope. Has been completely exhausting for all involved. Dd has nose to grindstone ( ahem) Apparently watching Spirals is helping with French revision.Shock really???
We are all geeing up for the Giro d'Italia. influx of Dishy Italians
Everything's being turned pink in anticipation. Rudy hope dm is ok.Thanks
MI - hope you are done with the testicles. NU - hope you have a super trip. Happy Easter to everyone.

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 14/04/2014 19:08

I am contemplating taking the DDs to the Isle of Wight for a couple of days - do any of you have any thoughts about where we might stay and where we should avoid?

bigTillyMint · 14/04/2014 19:16

Cremo, giro sounds good - is it cycling?

MrsS we went to the Isle of Wight a couple of years ago. DH, DS and I loved it, DD less so (teenageryAngry) We stayed in Ventnor - close to botanical gardens and a gorgeous little-known beach and weny cycling/tree climbing( organised, with ropes, etc) and to other places on south/west with friends - I remember passing a very agreeable early evening in a beach cafe/pub on one. Many lovely pubs infact!

QueenQueenie · 14/04/2014 20:05

My Dad spends a lot of time on the I of W... A few days there with him a year is quite enough for me!

There are some lovely places and some awful ones imo.. but which is which rather depends what you are after.

Personally, I hate Cowes, as all things "yacht club" and braying men oin straw yellow cords not my cup of tea...

Sandown is got for a bit of old school seaside slumming - arcades, crazy golf etc

The unspoilt bits are lovely: St Helens (lovely restaurant serving mussels etc on the beach) and there is much lovely walking to be had... if you have those sort of teenagers.

QueenQueenie · 14/04/2014 20:06

BTM! Last time we were there my boys did the tree climbing, it was FAB. Mrs S if it appeals google tree climbing Isle of Wight and you'll find it. There is also riding if that appeals...

motherinferior · 14/04/2014 20:09

I had a very pleasant week there once staying with a boyfriend when I was 20 and eating veg and smoking dope that his dad grew in the garden (they were v young parents - his mum was only about 40 by this point).

NUFC69 · 14/04/2014 20:19

I spent several holidays in the IoW when I was a teenager, but I expect it has altered since then. Grin My DSis and our husbands went for a long weekend about five years ago and enjoyed it all over again. We went to Osbourne House one afternoon which was well worth a visit, even if your DD isn't necessarily into historic houses, MrsS.

We decided to take the DGC to Northumberlandia this afternoon as it is a pleasant walk and fairly near to where we live; DD said she would collect them from us there to save the journey, so we went later than we would normally have done. Needless to say both DGC fell asleep in the car and by the time they woke up and we got the pushchair out, and the scooter, etc., the place closed. I do think 4.30 p.m. in the Easter Holidays is a bit early to close.

There are now piles of clothes laid out on one of the spare beds: a bit of light cleaning to do in the morning, nails to be done lunchtime, and then we will have to see whether we can actually take all the clothes I have put out.

Auriga · 14/04/2014 20:54

Rudy, thank you, & I hope things are going as well as they can with your Mum. Sorry can't remember if it's chemo or radio or both: hard to support someone going through any of those.

QQ, sorry your DH is jumping ship, esp. after you've so looked forward to the break. Admit I am guilty of working during holidays but I do negotiate. Family know in advance when I'll genuinely be off duty, phone turned off (or, as last week, left behind Grin).

MI you're right, baking and charity shops best entertainment for pubescent girls. DD developed her taste and style through her charity shop habit.

And BTM, enjoy rest of holiday. Sounds great.

CointreauVersial · 14/04/2014 22:42

DM is staying over tonight, so she can do two days childcare on the trot. She weeded the back garden today, and is planning to sort out the front tomorrow. Bless her.

NUFC69 · 15/04/2014 08:04

Good for your DM, CV. I like to think that we GPs can be useful at times. Now we do childcare one day a week I am always amazed by the number of GPs pushing GCs around.

Lovely day here; lots to do before we're ready, so I don't really know why I am lying in bed atm.

NU, happy hols! I am greatly looking forward to the days when we can holiday without teens in tow.

I am going to head off to look at some art after breakfast, on my ownSmile

Blackduck · 15/04/2014 08:26

I would like to be lying in bed... :( Roll on Friday - only three more days!

I am v v v tired. Niece is coming up today so dp is in full on Uncle mode for the next couple of days, then niece and ds go to grandparents over the Easter weekend and I go to collect on Wednesday for a couple of days at my folks (and crepey drink :) )

NearTheWindymill · 15/04/2014 08:34

My DS had a wonderful five days on the Isle of Wight about four years ago. Stayed with friends and spent most nights on the beach with beer and a Sheesha (?) pipe I believe. It was teenage heaven I'm told.

I could really do without going to work today - it is tiresome and I have to deal with a whingeing complainant whom I'd like to tell to grow up, be sensible and think about the impact of saying such unkind things on other people - ho hum.

herbaceous · 15/04/2014 08:39

Gearing up here for the funeral tomorrow. As it's at 11 in the morning, we're going to go to the inlaws tonight, as the thought of getting stuck in traffic in the morning and DP being late for his eulogy is too hideous. This does, however, meant two nights on blow-up beds, which is not ideal.

I continue to hum and haw about my outfit, while realising it is the least important question in the world.

I'm always midly amazed by the involvement of grandparents in Dc's lives. In nearly five years we haven't had one minute of help from any relative, let alone the grandparents. But I guess as I never expected it - it was our decision to have a baby, not theirs - I don't actually mind.

herbaceous · 15/04/2014 08:51

BTW, who are you windymill?
