Over here all........

Crem Sad. Poor dd. How many are you waiting to hear from and has she had some acceptances?

motherinferior · 02/04/2014 16:40

Oh that too is pants, Cremo, especially Dad and uni (though both of those are very nice places. I am a big fan of Leeds. I like big city universities. And Leeds is cheap).

DP announced last night he is looking forward to the day when he and I can just go away together. This is quite romantic, isn't it Grin

hattymattie · 02/04/2014 17:00

Crem - Leeds and Glasgow are fab uni's. Did she not have an offer from SOAS as well. Stropps I can so relate to low results and teacher blame. Have to say DD1 is not studying as I feel she ought to be with so much at stake - low mock results are the fault of everyone except her.

Sorry to hear about your Dad as well Crem that's tough if he cannot even get jam on his toast.

cremolafoam · 02/04/2014 17:23

Hattie she turned down the SOAS offer because she can't now get an A* in politics - even if she got full marks on her final paper it will be an A. ( bloody grade boundaries , mutter mutter)
She is coming round to Glasgow as she can be near her step brother.
It's just the dashing of imagined future that stings so much. Agree Leeds would be fab.

Poor undiagnosed dad. Honestly I am askance at the lack of joint up care. The second hospital he was in hadn't got it on his notes. Just the previous one when he was in an acute ward. Took all of us together plus several phone calls to join the dots. We have employed a private nurse for the next week as mum is shattered .

lalsy · 02/04/2014 17:24

Sorry, Crem, I thought you meant you were waiting for Leeds and Glasgow and possibly others. Does she not want to go to either of them?

cremolafoam · 02/04/2014 17:31

Not that lalsy , Edinburgh was The Dream. Now constructing a different dream. She has had all 5 offers now.
Just the Edinburgh refusal
Turned down SOAS offer due to reason above
Turned down Clare Cambs ( separate application) as she needed 3a* which she can't get.

Leaving Glasgow Leeds and Liverpool. Great choices I know!
Just a shock for her. Still to click through with final two as we need to be sure insurance choice has a lower grade offer. Even if she exceeds her predicted grades Edinburgh don't do clearing.

beachyhead · 02/04/2014 18:06

Poor ddad, Crem. You may find the private nurse is able to do some investigations and get to the bottom of all the hospital notes.

I hope dd comes to terms with her choices. They are all great unis.

So MI, when you get to go away with dh on your own, will you have to do tai chi?

Have had a strenuous day at work culminating in a controlled but heated discussion with my boss and various consultants she has hired. I'm not sure it turned out the way she wanted, as they didn't seem to have read the script, but rather than feeling like I've won the 'argument', am now feeling rather scared as I'm quite sure there will be repercussions!

Welcome Polly and good luck to dentist go-ersGrin

lalsy · 02/04/2014 18:09

Ah, I see, poor love, I hope new dream construction goes quickly, it can't be any fun to be having to do it now with exams looming. But she has a bit of time, so worth a few sleeps perhaps?
[and what joker thought up 3A* offers? Beasts]

Shocked, again, at NHS failure to provide any sort of continuity of care.

cremolafoam · 02/04/2014 18:34

Thanks Beachy and lalsy ,
I am distracting dd with choosing possible student accommodation at Glasgow.
I am distracting ddad with Jeeves and Wooster DVDs .
I am distracting dmum with learning how to shop online at Sainsbury.
Grin < now click on gin and add to basket>

Stropperella · 02/04/2014 18:59

All clean and sparkly-sparkly post dental checkup. Still cavity-free at the ripe old age of 49. Ds has 40 years to go before he can break my record. Grin

I know I said I hate the school gate, but today it was useful. Bumped into 2 other mums with dcs in Y11 who were absolutely frothing with rage about similar issues but in different subjects and fuming about the response or lack of from the school. At least the ICT teacher has emailed me back 3 times. However, I am in school myself tomorrow (a desperate call from the exams office today - Super Invigilator to the rescue tomorrow pm) ...

Am trying to sort out some end-of-year business admin and it is very niggly. I do not need more "niggly" today. Raaaaaaah.

Am completely appalled by the terribly inability to communicate within the NHS. It should be easier these days than ever before, FGS.

NUFC69 · 02/04/2014 19:32

Well done, Stropps, I wish I could say the same.

Crem, just oh about your DDad (and your mum, for that matter). I hope the short term care you have put in place works well.

I am, of course, completely unaware these days about qualifications for uni, but am staggered with the 3As*.

bigTillyMint · 02/04/2014 19:38

StroppsEnvyEnvyEnvy

Managed to stay awake and not too frothy at DS's options eve - they seem to have cut out 1 GCSE option (good) and said that they all have to do RE, Citizenship and ICT, but not necessarily take them as a GCSE (good) but it looks like DS will have to take a creative arts GCSE (despite this not being his skill set!) I am going to lobby for PE instead, but if not, it might have to be Media Studies which looks the least creativeGrin

I have a colleague who is having similar woes with NHS related to cancerSad

bigTillyMint · 02/04/2014 19:39

Yes, 3 A*'s{shock] I only had to get 2 E'sGrin I did surpass that somewhat!

herbaceous · 02/04/2014 19:39

Urg. Stomach ache is now accompanied by, er, problems at the other end to DS's. This is when more than one lav once again would be nice.

Lack of communication within, and without, sadly NHS comes as no surprise. But in the electronic age, there is surely no excuse.

Stropperella · 02/04/2014 19:58

Herbs, my sympathies. My digestive system had a few days of being somewhat out of kilter last week. Never good when you have to spend extended periods in the midst of people being awfully silent and concentrating on their exams. Grin

NUFC69 · 02/04/2014 20:05

OMG, Stropps, how on earth did you cope?

Herbs, I hope you feel better soon.

Blackduck · 02/04/2014 20:12

All :(. Sounds mega stressful - I am worrying about all that going forward.
Stropps I would be STEAMING .....

Nothing to add - just lots of sympathy all.

Stropperella · 02/04/2014 20:32

NU, it was only a 1.5 hour exam luckily. So I only required one or two strategic exits to add to our collection of spare pens.

beachyhead · 02/04/2014 21:20

Stropps, no filings at our age. Serious respect due! Wine

SheherazadeSchadenfreude · 02/04/2014 21:39

Hello Polly and welcome to the wonderful world of crepeys! Please do stay!

I am being clutched by the cat, which is quite nice, if a bit stifling.

On children issues, DD1 is getting academic warnings for science. She made the massive step (for her) tonight of going to speak to her teacher to see where she is going wrong. He is a nice man, and spent an hour with her, explaining where she is going wrong and how to "work smarter." She is currently getting 69%, which is a D - I thought 69% sounded pretty good, but what do I know?

And agree with BD, Stropps, I would be shouty and ranty.

Crem, your poor Dad. I think when the NHS works, it is great. But when it doesn't, it really isn't. My poor cousin was repeatedly told there was nothing wrong with his throat, so he paid for a private consultation. A week later, and he's in the Royal Marsden, and the prognosis isn't good. My back is still sore. The dressings that the hospital told me I needed to get for my back are no longer made. Boots ordered me a size smaller, but they are much too small. Helpful assistant found me something that will do instead, and hopefully won't itch as much.

addle · 02/04/2014 22:05

Welcome Polly! (I like her)

Crem. so sorry about Edinb. and yr dad, is rubbish communication all round.

Stropps, another vote for shouty and ranty

and sorry about your back Mrs S.

does everyone's dc break up for easter this week?

Stropperella · 02/04/2014 22:15

MrsS, Sad for your poor cousin. I'm not surprised your back is still sore - they took a goodly chunk out of it by the sounds of it. When do you have your stitches out?

I have been very fierce in my emails to the teacher and whilst I am extremely well aware of dd's many and varied faults, my gut is telling me that it's the teacher who deserves my wrath on this occasion. Dd has said on several occasions lately that she has given him work and he has "lost" it and once told her that a memory stick with her work on was "destroyed" by accident. She has until May 1st to rectify whatever it is that needs rectifying and he claims he will be around to ensure she can access the computers to do this. She says earlier in the year he often wasn't there after school when he said he would be and several went together to do work and couldn't access the IT suite because there was no one there. I do remember her telling me this a few months ago, so it's not all last-minute stuff.

Beachy, no congrats deserved - I just got lucky in the genetic lottery on the dental front. My dad had his first filling at 80, despite being a smoker, heavy drinker and keen sugar-eater. Grin (although I do seem to remember he was obsessive about cleaning his teeth and visiting a hygienist - which I also do).

bigTillyMint · 02/04/2014 22:17

MrsS, I thought 69% sounds good tooConfused Hope the dressings work. DS had some fab ones from the hospital when he scraped half his shoulder off at the velodrome - no scab, just re grows the skin.

Yes, 11.40 on Fri I believeWink

NUFC69 · 02/04/2014 22:27

69% sounds pretty good to me, too.

Sorry to continue to hear of problems with the NHS, the hospitals here are pretty good, we have problems with the Gp practices, ie difficult to see an actual doctor.

Off to bed now and hoping that we see the sun tomorrow, but at least no air pollution here.

Blackduck · 03/04/2014 08:19

69% sounds good to me so a D seems a bit weird to put it mildly.

We have another week here before we finish - but that's good because hopefully you lot will have gone back when I bring DS down to do the Vikings at the British Museum! Grin
On which note anyone fancy a mini crepey meet up?

Here feeling a tad sick and there is a weird smell in the air this morning - not nice.

MrsS hope the back is okay.
Stropps I'd now be properly seething because he sounds totally incompetent.
