So, wise mumsnetters, do they work or not. I read I another thread someone with a scientific background saying they are a con and it got me thinking.

Are there any products you recommend under the £20 mark?

At the grand old age of 35 my. face isn't in bad shape but the same can't be said for my neckHmm

For some reason I don't think I've ever moisturised it regularly and now it is wrinkle city!

If any of the creams reversed the ageing process, they would be charging a hell of a lot more for them than they do!

I have made big changes to my skincare routine in the last year and noticed my skin looking better and feeling so much softer. I'm 37 so do have some wrinkles (eyes mainly, a few on forehead) but I don't look ancient and have lovely smooth, bright skin which I think makes a big difference to how I look age wise even with the wrinkles.

My routine is:

  • religious hot cloth cleansing, with double cleanse if wearing make up
  • hydraluron but no serum
  • moisturiser in the morning, clarins blue orchid oil in the evening (sometimes with additional moisturiser)
  • religious use of SPF15 in winter, SPF40 in summer
  • drink loads of water, limited alcohol (2 glasses of wine a week max), try to limit sugar.

For me, holding back ageing seems to be less about the wrinkles (that's genes) and more about not dehydrating and drying out your skin by using appropriate products and following good lifestyle rules. To me, the friends who drink most alcohol and who don't use SPF are the ones who look oldest - which has the dehydrating and drying effect. You can get products to focus on those two (hence thehydraluron and blue orchid oil in my routine) and they do make a difference.

Ah yes...the demon drink. When I've been on the red I look prune-like the following day. Used to be able to get away with it but sadly, NOT at 52.

Retin A made my deep 11's disappear to a faint line (only 1) after a year.
