Wash hair every other day? How?

As in how do you get away with washing hair every other day if you exercise every day.

I take dog for walk/run every day, so would be worried about my hair being unclean if I left it longer than a day.

But am worried this is bad for me hair

I don't exercise every day, that's how Smile...
If my head gets sweaty, I wash my hair. Regardless of when I last washed it.

nonameisgoodname · 23/03/2014 16:52

I wear a shower cap when showering after running. I don't ever feel like my hair is dirty, even though I wash it every 4-5 days.

pinkflaming0 · 23/03/2014 17:05

Have to wash mine every day as I get a greasy hairline including fringe after one day. I exercise most days and have to wash it after that anyway as when I tie it back it goes all kinky and weirdly shaped!

Sometimes I end up washing it twice in a day.

Have some Batiste dry shampoo but for emergencies only!

I know several women with dry hair who wash and straighten once or twice a week - no chance of me doing that.

chipsandpeas · 23/03/2014 17:05

dry shampoo for some mornings after the gym or if its day 2 hair then sometimes i just blow dry the sweaty roots and style as normal

but luckily some days i can get away with doing this

pinkflaming0 · 23/03/2014 17:08

Btw - my pre-adolescent kids rarely wash their hair and it's perfectly fine. Eldest is 12 though and needs to do it every day now puberty is kicking in.

ilikeyourface · 23/03/2014 17:13

I excerise most days and only was my hair about twice a week Blush I dry shampoo if it looks greasy but to be honest you really need to just start washing your hair less regually, it might be greasy for about a month but after that your hair will get used to it

Beaverfeaver · 23/03/2014 19:16

How do you have a bath every day but not wash hair?

Is it ok that it gets wet so long as it's not washed?

I shower with my hair tied back. I don't stand with my head under the shower so my hair doesn't get wet.

JokersGiggle · 23/03/2014 19:34

I Wash my hair every other day, I like the fresh feeling. But I use a very mild shampoo (Jason: Lavender volumising) that is low on chemicals and condition well (dove intensive keratin therapy, leave for 3 mins then wash out) and after a towel dry I Spritz with a mix of water, Rosemary oil and Lavender oil. Then blow dry/style as normal.
Keeps my long hair and fringe clean, well conditioned and smelling great. And sorted out my dandruff!

RhondaJean · 23/03/2014 19:37

I can't wash my hair every day or I would be a ball of frizz.

Every second day works, when I'm on form and training most days I use a shower cap to shower or bath, it's just the type of hair I have I guess. Three days and I feel it's starting to look a bit mucky.

ilikeyourface · 23/03/2014 20:27

I just tie my hair up and dont get it wet

ladypete · 23/03/2014 22:52

Use a sulphate free shampoo of you're worried about constant washing and stripping your hair.

I exercise daily and wash my hair more than what normally would be necessary for my curly hair type. I find this works for me.

LittleBearPad · 23/03/2014 22:56

Surely it's very easy to have a bath without getting your hair wet. Shower caps for showers.

moralimbecile · 23/03/2014 23:13

I use conditioner as, or instead of, shampoo. My hair is very clean, and it has sorted my frizz problem nicely. Must be silicone free and paraben free though.

PacificDogwood · 23/03/2014 23:15

Surely it depends more on your hair type than what activities you do??

I shower every day, wash my hair every 3-4 days and put it up in a clip on days that I don't wash it.

JokersGiggle · 24/03/2014 07:54

Just asked my hair dresser and she's said that its up to the person. But the more you wash it the milder the shampoo needs to be and the stronger the conditioner. She uses herbal essences silicon free and washes hair once every 4/5 days. It looks amazingly healthy Smile

ggirl · 24/03/2014 08:01

Why is it bad to wash your hair everyday?

I wash mine as needed which is usually daily and dh has washed his everyday for years and years and it's fine.

I am so envious of people who can get away with washing their hair weekly

rootypig · 24/03/2014 08:27

My mum washes her hair every day religiously OCD. She's in her mid fifties and it's shiny and thick with little grey and no thinning.

I remember reading Philip Kingsley, the trichologist, saying that you should wash your hair every day, especially if you live in a city. He likened keeping the scalp clean to keeping your face clean.

I wouldn't worry.

Bankholidaybaby · 24/03/2014 09:57

I once got my hair wet in the shower without washing it (I'd washed it two days before) as I was so distracted and preoccupied that I simply forgot to use shampoo. It was a greasy, disgusting mess when it dried - much worse than if I hadn't wet it.

LittleBearPad · 24/03/2014 16:26

Ggirl your hair is used to being washed everyday, if you left it a day it would get used to being washed every other day etc. it would be a bit greasy between washes for a bit but you can change how frequently you need to wash it.

Crazyhours · 24/03/2014 17:09

That's interesting Bankholidaybaby - sometimes when I can't be bothered to shampoo mine I just rinse in with water in the shower and it cleans the grease out surprisingly well - definitely enough to get another day out of it.

rootypig · 24/03/2014 19:22

littlebear I'm not sure the hair changes, more that you get used to the way it feels?

ggirl · 24/03/2014 19:28

well today I didn't wash because i was at home all day, had to use dry shampoo though and the style was a but Hmm but not too bad

will try using dry shampoo more as I detest washing/drying my hair

wiltingfast · 24/03/2014 22:41

I wash every second day, dry shampoo in between. Have thinnish fine hair and my scalp tends to be red and sensitive so I try to wash it as little as poss. Until I found dry shampoo however, the second day was a struggle.

I also find my hair doesn't style as well if washed two days in a row. I find I have to rotate shampoos too. Honestly, it's such a lot of faff!

Think it depends on the type of hair you have though. Thin, thick, curley etc.
