The Perfect Red Lipstick

I think I may have posted about this before but I'm still looking for the perfect red lipstick

I would like a blue toned red... does that even make sense? I don't know much about 'tones'. Ok, I don't know anything about tones but I do know that orangey reds don't suit me. I would like something Hollywood glam-ish. The first lipstick I ever owned was Paloma Picasso Mon Rouge but I'm pretty sure it has been discontinued.

Can anyone please recommend a lipstick for me? I don't care which brand.

TIA

Get yourself to a Chanel counter and try some on.
Tell them you want a blue based one and they will find you one.
My perfect reds are Nars Flaming Dust and Gypsy and Revlon Romantic.

It's all trial and error.

I might try that tomorrow, thanks. I have a voucher for HoF burning a hole in my wallet and I like Chanel products

Mac Russian Red

LulaPalooza · 20/03/2014 21:44

NARS Gipsy sounds good but is it sheer? Just Google Imaged it

Thank you for your help, much appreciated

Gypsy is sheer, very easy to wear.

Manhunt is also nice, it's very true poppy red.
Gypsy is warmer.

Revlon Really Red and Maybelline Red Revival.

Nars Fire Down Below - just for the name!

LulaPalooza · 20/03/2014 23:41

These are all great suggestions, ladies. Thank you

I love:

MAC Ruby Woo
Chanel Pirate
DIOR Trafalgar
Tom Ford Scarlet Rouge (My everyday Red)
Tom Ford Cherry Lush

coffeeinbed · 21/03/2014 07:50

I read somewhere grazia that Rachel Khoo uses Cherry Lush.
Looks lovely on her

Furzella · 21/03/2014 08:01

Laura Mercier Healthy Lips - most flattering one I've ever found and a tiny bit blue-red, certainly not orange-red or brown-red.

MadBusLady · 21/03/2014 08:32

I keep going back to the Rimmel Kate Moss shade 01. I would say it is perfectly pitched between bluey and orangey, a true red.

VillaVillekulla · 21/03/2014 09:00

MAC Russian Red
Revlon Fire and Ice
Revlon Cherries in the Snow for a somewhere between fuschia and bright blue toned red.
I have a nice Elizabeth Arden one. I think it's called Perfect Red and it's lovely.
I also recently got one of those Revlon pencils in a shade called Standout and it's a nice deep red.

They've changed Mac, I now find them very drying.

I like NYX as they are not drying and have loads of lovely shades

NYX Sparkling red. rachelreznor.wordpress.com/2012/07/09/nyx-diamond-sparkle-lipstick-and-retractable-lip-liner-?-review-?/

NYX Chic red (round lipstick) eyegraffiti.blogspot.com/2011/10/nyx-round-lipstick-in-chic-red.html

I found this useful.

Pricey, but I find the veleet rope collection from the Lipstick Queen gives a really good red. Black tie is a darker, more berry red and Private Party is that full on, glam red I always wanted.

LulaPalooza · 22/03/2014 01:06

Wowsers! Thank you so much everyone and especially daililly for the link xx

Second Chanel. They found my perfect red - Gabrielle I my case - which makes my face light up. A colleague who trained as a make up artist said they're the best lipsticks in her opinion:)

Lottapianos · 22/03/2014 09:04

I need blue toned reds too and at the moment I live Diva Lady by Rimmel, its in their Moisture Renew range. Great colour, not drying and lasts pretty well - all for about 6 quid!
