Really good facial sunblock?

Hello,

I need to use sunblock every day as I have bad pigmentation on my face (melasma - 'mask of pregnancy') that never went away... (Youngest child is 4 1/2...)

Anyway, I've had a facial peel (cosmelan), which seems to be working second time round, and have been religious applying sunblock morning and lunchtime. I've been using 'heliocare' (factor 50) and clinique city block (only factor 40), as well as boots children's factor 50 for sensitive skin. All of them leave a nasty white film. I suspect I will have to put up with some degree of whiteness (because of the necessary zinc component) but has anybody found a high factor sunblock that doesn't leave too bad a white mask look?? Thank you!

I like La Roche Posay Anthelios. There's a tinted version too. I also have a Sunsense one last year that was excellent too.I 'll have to check exactly what it was called later.

I had melasma on my hands and used La Roche Posay Active C on it and it went away. Might be worth trying

The Estée Lauder one. I use it and it's good. About 33 quid

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried soooo many expensive creams and lotions... Hydroquinone too and that didn't work. Clinique didn't work, caudelie vino protect, SpaceNK expensive lotions didn't work, microdermabrasion etc.

Fingers crossed this cosmelan works. With full on sunblock!

Ultrasun is good and lasts all day.

The best one I've ever used is Dermalogica. It goes on like a normal moisturiser and doesn't clog my pores or give me spots like most other sunscreens I've tried.

Hi - have a look at Sali Hughes column for the Guardian - she has done a suncare series that you might find useful, as has Lisa Eldridge on her website. I have tried hundreds over the years as I get pigmentation from being in the sun and luckily/unluckily live in a very hot country. The best I have found is Estee Lauder Day Care factor 50. It is quite pricey (£33), but leaves no white residue, is not greasy and doesn't clog pores. I use it over my normal moisturiser and under makeup. Good luck!

Mac do a prep and prime SPF 50 if that's any good for you?

Sunsense Daily Face (factor 50) is very good. It's slightly tinted (which I prefer to the chalk white look that La Roche Posay leaves me with) and the least greasy high factor option I've found.

Like mothermirth I use Dermalogica. I have sensitive skin and it has been great.

I mix Clinique city block with a bit of their even better foundation and apply with a stipple brush, seems to add the tint and minimise chalkiness.

Seconding Ultrasun. Suits my skin, I'm combination and it doesn't block my pores.

another vote for la roche posay.

Clarins new SPF for face is excellent, feels more like a face cream than a sun cream so great for every day.

I like the no 7 facial sunblock factor 50. It's in the suncream section rather than the skincare bit at boots, but it feels like skincare. I prefer it to mac and clinique by far.

I'm a new convert to La Roche-Posay. It's available on the Boots 3-4-2 at the mo. as well.

Crikey, really hope it doesn't make the melasma worse..... Am going to be very very careful with sunblocks.
