Mascara and basic makeup Help!

I don't ordinarily wear makeup. Far too lazy! However I'm getting married in October and would like to wear a little.
I went into John Lewis and got a makeover at clinique but she didn't listen and put far too much on for me so I felt a bit uncomfortable.
I'm 37, English Rose type complexion. just looking for a mascara (that won't run as I will bawl like a small child), lipstick or tint, maybe a little blush and eyeshadow. I'm thinking I need to start practicing now!

How about some garnier BB cream (bit of coverage but not heavy) a waterproof mascara. Go for one with a fat brush. I hate the ones with skinny brushes. No curl at all. Maybe a lip stain so you don't need to keep reapplying.

Why don't you book a wedding makeup lesson at Bobbi Brown? When I married 7 years ago I had makeovers at BB, Clinique & MAC. I've since had loads of makeovers & the BB was by far the best. The nice assistant gave me a really wearable makeup & listened to what I wanted.

Why not try Chanel, Dior or Bobbi Brown counters? The make up isn't as heavy especially Bobbi Brown it's very natural. In the department stores I frequent Bobbi Brown is especially popular with Bride to Be's.

Why not get your eye lashes tinted? It costs about £8 and won't run, smudge or generally cause trouble. Also, someone will do it for you! You can usually choose colours or a mix of colours (eg brown, black, brown-black) and it won't look heavy-handed or overdone. Give it a go a few months in advance of the big day and see what you think. It lasts me 4-6 weeks, and looks better on the second day or later (in my opinion). Much easier than faffing about with mascara.

I would go to a different counter and try again. My friend doesn't like make up but for her wedding day used Benefit and was happy. As mentioned, brow and lash tint would be lovely and they can be subtle.

Can't see me wearing any foundation/ cover at all but will look at using a stain instead of lipstick.

You might want a bit of powder just to take the sheen off for the photos.

No 7 have some big fat crayons that are sheer lip sticks, very pretty and flattering.

Also, take pictures when you practise so you can see what shows up in photos.

I hate Bobbi Brown normally but actually I think they would be ideal as you want a very natural look.

Somehow I'd completely forgotten pictures would be taken.
My eyes are wonky and it looks very obvious in photos.

Who's taking the pics? Can you talk through what you want beforehand with the photographer so he knows to take pics of your preferred side?

It's going to be so low key it's practically not happening. No photographer. Suspect family and friends will snap away though. Alas no amount of head turning hides the wonkyness

Another vote for Bobbi Brown. I've heard their make overs are good. Also have you checked out Lisa Eldridge's site? She's got some lovely tutorials, including one for very fair skin.

Also, Laura Mercier are worth trying too, and do very good tinted moisturisers, if you feel foundation is a bit much.
