What is the general consensus , are they frumpy and what is the sizing like . I'm 40 and quite liking a few of the dresses but don't want to look older than my years

Hmmmm definitely dont think they look frumpy, Haven't a clue about sizes as they are out of my price range Sad

MolotovCocktail · 24/02/2014 16:43

I think they're very grown-up, but not frumpy. When I look at them, style-wise they remind me of dresses Kate Middleton would wear.

I don't think that, at 40, you would look older than your years (the silk tunic dresses and some of the lace panelled dresses are gorgeous) but you wont exactly be looking young, iyswim. Grown-up. Mature. A Mum, but certainly not Mumsy.

Sorry, can't help with Kaliko sizing.

They have some lovely stuff and some not so lovely stuff, IMO. There's a great jumpsuit and a few good looking dresses in that link.

Sometimes I think the backs of their dresses could be nicer - they often have a lot of detail on the front but an utterly plain back. That applies to a lot of brands though.

Floisme · 24/02/2014 17:01

I've never bought but I've tried on and I think they're a bit hit and miss. Some of it is nice but yes, some of it can be frumpy - and I'm 57!
I think it's the fabrics as much as the styles. For example, I think I've seen that ruched jersey dress and it was in this really shiny material that, for me, completely ruined it. So I would try on before you buy or be prepared to return. I can't remember what the sizing is like - sorry.

I love the grey silk long sleeved dress on your link. Above my budget though. I think they vary from not at all frumpy to quite frumpy.

GeorginaWorsley · 24/02/2014 18:05

They always look frumpy on me because they are too long,I'm only 5 ft 3 and need knee length or just above otherwise frumptastic.

Slh122 · 24/02/2014 18:09

I find their sizing fairly generous so I always go a size down. I don't think it's frumpy at all - I wear it and I'm 19. :)

KatherinaMinola · 24/02/2014 18:11

I think they are a bit. I can't imagine anyone under 40 wearing them (or if they did, they'd look a bit like they'd borrowed their mum's clothes).

PoshPaula · 24/02/2014 18:18

Years ago, when I was in my twenties, I had the most gorgeous Kaliko dress, and a fabulous coat and a suit by the same brand. But that was in the Nineties and I've seen nothing there since that doesn't look a bit dull and frumpy, really.

pussycatdoll · 24/02/2014 18:20

My mum shops there
She's in her 70s
I think they're for 50+ tbh

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 24/02/2014 18:29

I have a couple of kaliko dresses and to me they're ok for my age (41). When I choose clothes I tend to think about whether clothes fit well rather than whether they're frumpy and I would say that the kaliko clothes I have are well made and flattering. When I was a size 16/18 I had an amazing dress I wore to a wedding that really made my stomach look smaller and gave me a great hourglass shape. I've lost weight since but still have a mum tum which kaliko dresses disguise well. Their sizes are generous so size down.
