Chloe handbag fault help

Bought a Chloe bag at Bicester village beginning of December, opened it Xmas day. Its less than 2 months old and I haven't used it everyday. It cost £800 (reduced from about £1400). Picked it up by the handle yesterday and the handle has literally come off! The metal pins that run through each strap handle and screw into the metal bits had worked loose. Have lost one screw completely. Haven't contacted Chloe yet as i've been away but planning to contact them tomorrow. I'm livid! I feel I should have a full refund given its less than 8 weeks old and dont have any faith in it lasting long term. Not happy at the prospect of a repair but worried they will try and fob me off as it was discounted at Bicester. Can anyone advise me?

Can you take it back to the store in Bicester Village. Hopefully they'll refund as its not fit for the purpose

RonaldMcDonald · 19/02/2014 23:13

simply take it back
you have rights

Angie, I found a site some months ago that does such repairs if you have no joy at the store. Can't remember the name (sounded like a furniture repair company!) but their ads are always in the classifieds at the back of glossy mags found in the hair salon....I'll have a trawl and see if I can find (my interest was for a Versace repair which I still haven't gotten around to) the basic premise is you email them a pic of the damage and they'll advise if the can fix and at what cost.

I get what the PPs are saying re fit for purpose etc....but I know when you get such a great bargain you might not just simply want a refund (given that it was such a bargain).

OK here's the link www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/Handbags_Repair_Restoration.php

However, there are loads of places all over UK if you google handbag repairs Smile

PS my Versace sounds like a similar strap fail!

AngieM2 · 20/02/2014 08:21

Thanks ladies, I'm probably leaning towards a refund as I have a concern about the quality. Its my first Chloe (got other 'designer bags' which have all been good) so I have no experience of the brand. I'm actually about 70 miles from Bicester so its not ideal to take it back.

What a pain - which style was it? I'd phone them up and see what they say.

FrugalFashionista · 20/02/2014 08:30

I passed through Harrods at an airport some time ago and noticed that the Chloe Paratys were made of substandard calf leather. The leather was already wrinkling and the bags hadn't even been properly worn yet! Quite a feat because calf leather is nearly indestructible!

The Marcies were made of nicer leather (but you can get the same or better quality for much less from Longchamp or Marc Jacobs) but I would still be worried about quality - handbags are the cash cows of many fashion houses and the prices have nothing to do with reality quality.

MrsCampbellBlack · 20/02/2014 08:33

I've got a marcie and very pleased with it - feels better quality than my marc jacobs one. But agree that the prices are crazy.

I did read something a while back on here about concerns about someone with a faulty chloe so bought mine from Harvey Nichols as felt I'd have better chance of getting it sorted if there was a problem.

AngieM2 · 20/02/2014 09:11

I don’t know the brand really -apart from the Marci - it looks like mine is a 'Holly'. I'm so pissed off, its a lovely red, which is the only colour I don’t have and I specifically wanted for winter. Have just checked my receipt and it says 'refunds will only be given on faulty goods' so I guess its looking positive. Will post an update after I've rung them.

Good luck Angie!

Abi09 · 06/03/2014 01:14

Hi AngieM2 I have had exactly the same problem with a pin falling out of the strap. Have you contacted them yet? I am struggling trying to get hold of Bicester Chloe as their phone rings and then makes a fax line noise. I really don't want to have to make a journey if I can help it! Would appreciate your feedback.

madammecholet · 06/03/2014 08:41

I'd call them first, rather than driving over there. I'm sure they'll be reasonable about it. Personally, i'd get them to repair it and make sure that if it happens again you can have a refund.

Which one is it?

Bonsoir · 06/03/2014 08:49

Try calling them but if you don't get the help you want, write (politely) directly to the President of Chloé and copy the letter to MN. Brands don't like a poor reputation circulating on social media...

madammecholet · 06/03/2014 09:16

Or tweet them, @chloefashion
