lipstick help please

I had a colours consultation last week which suggested that as a winter colour /i should wear strong, bold, jewel like colours - think navy, purple, deep or jade green, fuschia, cerise, black etc.
This is all good and not a million miles from some of my favourite clothes anyway.
However, she also did a makeup consultation and suggested that I really should be wearing bold lipstick - often.
Although I do regularly wear makeup, lipstick is the one area Ive always been very low key on so this is a big change for me.

I read in the papers this weekend that older skin may be better with a lip stain - this appeals as I could presumably stain my lips once or twice per day then just add my usual lip balm on top - can anyone suggest a good one please?

I was recently diagnosed as a Jewell Winter and had previously never really bothered with make-up. I made myself wear lipstick or balm type sticks for the first two weeks. All those colours now seem too dull! It's amazing how quickly you become used to the brightness and begin to see how washed out you can look without it.

Revon and No7 both do a chubby stick type of lip stain/balm which are nice. I have a Chanel Coco Shine lipstick in 80 which is bright but still quite sheer. The Collection 2000 lipstick in Prohibition is also very wearable.

Max Factor Lipfinity is just about the most lasting one that I've found & you can add colour on top, not just the clear gloss it comes with but I use the stain bit as base & add a coloured gloss on top.

It's no use me suggesting colours as I'm a Spring, so completely different from your Winter, but I totally understand your reluctance as us Springs are told we need bright colours every day. On my colour day I was sent home in a bright red, felt like a pair of lips with me following behind! But you do get used. I still can't manage red but wear bright corals, peaches & pinks.
Try a softer formula, that eases you in a bit. Revlon Lip Butters are good or any of the twist up ones that look like big pencils. I expect some Winters will come & advise on colours. Have you tried the Winter thread? The colour threads are really useful & helpful. If you'd been Spring I'd have welcomed you to ours

When I started wearing bright lipsticks I started with Lipstick Queen medieval It's sort of half way between a lip balm and a lipstick and gives a nice reddish colour without scaring yourself with the brightness.

not sure on colours for you but I use maybelline 24hr duo stuff, i have some lovely colours in it and once its on at breakfast time I don't reapply at all during the day I just slick a bit of either the balm that the double end has on it or a slick of blistex... i have lovely lips

I love it! I wear bright hot pinks and fuchsia lipsticks a lot as they make your teeth look whiter and they make my lips look plumper for some reason!

Interesting you think they make your teeth whiter, when I had them on in my consultation I thought my teeth looked yellower.
