Product help - CG method

I am preparing to start the Curly Girl method, after seeing it a couple of times on here recently.

Just looking at what I have in the house to see whether any of it is suitable and found my DCs' Baby Spray Conditioner, which I thought I could use as a leave in conditioner.

I have looked up the ingredients and have found that Cetearyl Alcohol is not water soluble. But I'm confused because the website I was using to learn about which ingredients to use/avoid recommends it as suitable (under step 3).

Can someone explain?

And even better, link to some products that are suitable for this method to save me wading through endless ingredients lists? [hopeful]

We use the body shop rainforest moisture shampoo and conditioner and hair butter. Works brilliantly. I spray with water rather than detangler before brushing with a tangle teaser.

I have just started using the body shop rainforest moisture range on my DS and its already made a huge difference. I leave the conditioner in the second time and then spray with water in the mornings. I also put boots essential curl creme through it which is another CG approved product.

Thank you ladies. I saw another thread where a few people used Tresemme Naturals Conditioner to wash with so I've ordered some of that to arrive with supermarket delivery this evening. Heading into town in a bit so will also get so e of the Body Shop stuff you're talking about. And will hit Boots for the styling product.

Mrspeacock my dd has long fine curly hair would the boots creme be ok on her hair? On a 2nd day would I just spray with water use the tangle teezer then add the creme?

I think so Skivvy. The whole routine has got rid of all frizz and given DS soft ringlet curls. I rub the creme in my hands then run through his hair as though combing with my fingers.

Thanks mrs I'll buy some tomorrow, I've tried every product going I think and her hair looks either crunchy, greasy or lank so i revert back to drying her hair straight as it's easier to manage, so I'll get the creme and book her in to get a trim and try to maintain the curls (fingers crossed)

Well I washed with Tresemme Naturald conditioner this evening, plopped (as it were) and hair is fabulous. Will see how it is in the morning after sleeping on it! Didn't get out for the other products in the end but going tomorrow.

Will try the plopping tonight with her hair, did you leave it on long orange? After it had been washed did you put product on? Or would I just leave that part till morning?

I used an old long sleeved t-shirt and used the arms to tie at the back of my head. I've read that some people get odd kinky hair if they leave it too long but mine isn't very curly any more so I knew I wasn't in danger of that so I left it about 45 mins and had lovely curly locks after that. My hair wasn't dry though so I think the t shirt idea is more for the look of the curl rather than getting it dry. I'm new to this though so maybe not.

Think it's all a bit trial and error isn't it? Like putting too much conditioner on can make it go lank but for someone else, that amount is needed.

I've woken up this morning with lovely more relaxed wiggles, but with the drizzle in the he air it has made my hair look unkempt. Need practice for what to do with it between washes.

Ps didn't have any product to put in it (am buying today) so just used conditioner again(conditioner to wash, conditioner to condition and conditioner to style) and yes,I did that before plopping. Worked a treat.

I went and bought the boots curl creme so I'll try it tonight she will think I'm a strange one putting a top on her head

For the last few days I've been putting conditioner and water mixed into a spray bottle on her hair on the 2nd day but her hairs been looking quite limp, your right it's all trial and error now I know why my mum never bothered with my curls!

Haha, yes me too re my own mum - it's a bit of a faff isn't it?

Mine looks dreadful now, after a day in the wind and drizzle. Frizzy and very loose wiggles that look like I just need a good brush going through it.

I've bought the curl cream too (cheap as chips isn't it!) but mine's not due a wash yet so not sure how to keep reviving it until it's due another wash and I can start again with styling it.

Even though your daughter will think you're mad re the t-shirt, I do recommend doing the plopping bit since it did makes the curls come out lovely afterwards.

How often do you wash your hair? I've been doing dd every 2nd day even with normal shampoo! But I'm thinking maybe I'm doing it too much?

Straightening I can do curls I can't

I wash my DDs once a week but don't use any styling stuff on it. I just squirt with water each morning to brush and scrunch the curls back in.

I don't wash / co wash at all. She's beyond the food in the hair stage (most days) so this seems enough.

My hair's totally different to your daughter's skivvy. It used to be mega curly but with age/3 pregnancies it has thinned out and become just a bit wavy. I'm doing CG method because of how knotty it gets these days when washing and how frizzy it looks if just brushed and dried.

Anyway that said, in answer to your question, I was aiming to wash (with conditioner) every other day since that's what I'm in the habit of needing to do with my old (whatever shampoo I fancy the smell of) routine.

It still looks like I've been dragged through a hedge so I'm going to attempt to revive it with that curl product we both bought today. I'm on mat leave, awaiting arrival of DC3 hence the amount if time and thought I've got for my usually ignored hair!! Very soon I'll be back to sod it mentality I'm sure! ??

Well must say I'm well impressed with the plopping! Left it on for 45 mins and when I took it off and ran my fingers through it, it just looked like normal but as it dried there was more curly waves starting at the roots,

And this morning she's woke up and it still looked fab, it could have done without been spritzed with water but she's going out so sprayed with water and added some boots curl creme her hairs still damp so won't really see it till it's dry but up to now looks great

And I've just washed mine again this morning and done the same routine as before and have some lovely curls again. I think the key for me is probs going to be washing it every day to achieve this "look" since on day two, with the sort of hair that is reluctant to keep the curl, it's hard to make it look nice.

Think I need a product to sweep over it once it's dry though - to define the curls and make it shine.

Can anyone recommend?

How about a natural oil?

Like macadamia nut perhaps? Good idea. Am already a bit fed up of the faff though, to be honest! It looks limp and not presentable at the end of day one again. I suppose I do need to persevere though....
