Hoc style day

So I've got my HOC style day booked in March. I'm going with the friend I went with get my colours done back in the summer.

How do I get the best out of the day? Anyone got any good tips about things they wished they'd asked or which bits were more useful?

I'm really excited. I think I have my casual side sorted but I struggle with work wear and going out stuff and I have a complete mix of things in my wardrobe.

I would say IME (I'm a consultant) the clients who have the most productive days:

• bring clothes with them that have a distinct 'style' - a pair of jeans can only be so good or so bad, whereas clothes with a print/definitive style/look are an opportunity to discuss with the client what is right/wrong about them. Don't worry about the colours of clothes - no one expects you to have everything perfect within six months
• have very definite aims for the day, such as wanting to put together a work wardrobe, know what to wear on a night out or find a wedding outfit or whatever
• have the time/inclination to sort through their wardrobes afterwards to start to get to grips with the information - the sooner you do this after your class the more it 'grounds' what you learn during the day.
• have an open mind!

I loved my day, so interesting, one of my favourite and most useful parts was discussing items I'd bought and never worn. Finding out exactly why certain items just don't suit me has prevented me making the same mistakes again.

I've started a Pinterest board and plan to take along things like my favorate statement necklace and a top I have that I really want to love but don't.

I want to explore patterns and know what shapes of clothes would suit me so I can shop more confidently.

The colours day was so useful and has helped my shopping choices no end.

I'm doing the style day in march too, with travelincolour in fact.

Take along clothes /accessories that you think should good for you but are not, for some reason. Understanding WHY things are right or not for you is the most useful thing for me. Also the consultant can sometimes suggest ways to make it work for you

Eg ifyou are an ing and a top is too plain for you, you could wear it with a pretty cardigan and layer a couple of necklaces

Or if a top is too high on the neck, a scarf or statement necklace might bring it down visually

Definitely take along some dresses /skirts ( if you wear them ) as shapes and lengths are really crucial . You will have lots of light bulb moments, once you understand why a certain item has always been right for you but you never knew exactly why :-)

I hope you all have a great day. Everyone I know who has had style and colours says that the style day is even more useful than the colour.

But I do think you need to put a bit of effort in yourself afterwards, to get the most out of it. It's the beginning of a journey, not an end in itself ( sorry if that sounds too pretentious ) . There are lots of groups on Facebook or boards on Pinterest of mumsnet that will help
