Hi all, I am in need of a pair of wellies but all ones I try are too tight!! Does anyone know where I might get more generous wellies for a larger calf ? Many thanks xxx

Lurking with interestSmile

If you want practical wellies, Muckboots are great as the neoprene top section stretches to whatever size your leg is

BloodyMinecraft · 08/02/2014 21:32

Do they need to be up to the knee?

I bought some mid-length hunters which fit great whereas the long ones won't go over my calfs. They're still pretty high and good enough for normal mud and puddles.

Wolfiefan · 08/02/2014 21:33

I have Ariat ones.

UniS · 08/02/2014 21:33

Try short wellies.
try big green farmer wellies.
try muckboots
Don't bother with hunter and other trendy wellies.

Only1scoop · 08/02/2014 21:34

Huntress by hunter
Joules wellies quite generous also but not that hardcore

bodiddly · 08/02/2014 21:36

If you want cheaper wellies then Asda are quite wide.

TeamSwitzerland · 08/02/2014 21:39

Thanks for replies ladies, bloody, they don't need to be up to the knee. I like the joules patterns.. Are they generous around the calf? X

You need a wellie with an adjustable side gusset. I have Aigle, which are also a neat fit on the ankle.
Or something like this

Just put ladies wellies + adjustable gusset into Google and lots of makes come up.

Only1scoop · 08/02/2014 21:46

Hi team yes I was suprised how generous the Joules ones were on the calf....

TeamSwitzerland · 08/02/2014 21:57

Hi only, the patterns are lovely with the little horses and things. Very trendy , thanks for all replies x

I have these:www.sportingkit.co.uk/wa/1/63/1895-Le-Chameau-Chasseurnord.html

They come in different calf widths. Not cheap by any means, but I wear them most days for 8 months of the year. I threw out the old pair after 14 years of wear

wildfig · 09/02/2014 09:10

I've got the exact same boots as ishouldcocoa - expensive, but really comfy, well fitting, last for ages, and I wear them 11 months of the year in the mud wilderness that is my neck of the woods

TurnipSlippers · 10/02/2014 19:46

I have huge calves - much bigger than my rugby playing OH's and I bought these these six months ago.

They are a bit shorter than standard wellies but I think they're a bit of a bargain at £22 and they have other patterns too.

Fairylea · 10/02/2014 19:48

Seasalt have some really lovely short wellies. Their longer ones always have an elasticated section at the back so may be good !

(Look under the "rain" section of their website).

2whippetsnobed · 11/02/2014 09:42

I have Joules wellies and they fit very well on my tubby calves (approx 45cm). Would definitely recommend them.

I have these

ToFollowJulie · 11/02/2014 09:46

I have some Crocs wellies which work well with larger calves.

sausagefortea · 11/02/2014 10:04

This place specialises in wider calf wellies...

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 11/02/2014 13:11

I'm surprised that the JOules ones fit wider calves, I found them quite small. If they are tight on the calf they bunch up round the ankles and are quite comfortable.

The lower calf one in any brand are good, usually high enough to cope with most puddles and muddy fields. MIne are from asda, fit as nicely now with average sized calves as they did when I was bigger with 44cm calves.

Marylou2 · 11/02/2014 19:19

Joules definitely fit a chunky calf.I wear them and I'm definitely not coltish of leg!

enriquetheringbearinglizard · 11/02/2014 19:42

Oh Fairylea I just got their catalogue and came to post Seasalt

They have short, longboat and tall wellies in different patterns and with pretty linings, £36-£40

The tall have the neoprene panel and there are plenty of reviews here

supadupapupascupa · 11/02/2014 19:48

seasalt have some

ColouringInQueen · 11/02/2014 20:05

Town and Country willies fit my chunky calves. They also have an adjustable bit so I could make them wider if I wanted to!

here

they come in a range of colours.

Comfy and lasting well!

enriquetheringbearinglizard · 11/02/2014 23:44

Now don't go blaming autocorrect Queen Grin

caketinrosie · 12/02/2014 00:18

Ooh I love wellies. I will probably still need to have my shin bone removed before they get anywhere near fitting. Then I could just stuff my floppy jelly legs into my wellies and the sheer tension inside my boots would keep me upright Grin
