Ugg boots - yes or no?

Found a rum and raisin coloured pair half price. Never had any before. Any advice please on practicality, colour (kind of purple) and whether they are a bit past it or not!

If you want the opinion of a middle aged bloke, they are horrible and make women look poverty stricken. (IMHO of course)

KatieScarlett2833 · 10/02/2014 18:19

I look anything but poverty stricken Grin

I'm not a big fan but am clearly in the minority!
They are comfy and cosy but I feel like I'm walking around with 2 big sheep on my feet and I think I walk funny to compensate!
I actually think that the polished casual look with them is quite nice, just don't walk like a hunchback, like me.

DP always used to call mine my Shrek boots. Grin

I've worn mine throughout the final stages of my pregnancy because they're comfy but I agree they're useless in the wet. I've just spent two years living in Australia and I got ridiculed for wearing them to work one day because over there you don't wear them out of the house unless you're a bogan (chav). I got asked in all seriousness why I was wearing my slippers to work!! They also don't place any importance on the actual brand like we do in the UK, they just call them all Uggs regardless of whether they cost 150 or came from a supermarket for a tenth of the price.

natcat7000 · 10/02/2014 19:20

I originally bought a pair of Uggs and was definitely DEFINITELY only going to wear them around the house. Then I wore them out to do little errands, nothing serious. When I found myself wearing them the whole day, non stop, for months at a time, I knew I had a problem.

Have to say though that they are really good when pregnant because they just slip on (when you can't bend over much) and also, let's face it, you don't care what you look like.

I absolutely love mine. My lovely, faithful black ones have even been through the wash after a run-in with my toddler.

SinglePringle · 10/02/2014 22:54

I have four pairs slung into the bottom of my wardrobe. I only ever wear them as slippers now. Never out of the house. Ever.

50ShadesOfMaybe · 11/02/2014 06:41

Saw a woman the other day wearing light brown Uggs and one of those knitted hats with teddy bear eyes and ears. DH said she looked like she was buying a Teddy Bear costume in instalments!

TBH, it was the hat that was the problem, not the boots.

Kezzybear · 11/02/2014 06:46

I live mine and live in them! Dh hates them! Althought mine now have a little hole by my big toe, which is exactly what happened to my last pair.

Mine are purely slippers for the winter months, here in Au. I may consent to go out to the nature strip to collect the newspaper wearing them, but that is the limit.

KoalaFace · 11/02/2014 08:40

I received mine as a gift from my dad and thought I'd never wear them. In my opinion they look a bit of a joke.

But my god they are comfy. They've seen me through two pregnancies, bad hips and 5 winters. And still look alright!

Sometimes I don't care how I look. Sometimes I just want to feel comfortable. I got really sick of men telling me how "unsexy" they are. As if that is my concern while 2 weeks overdue with a baby, horrendous hip pain and walking in snow.

janmoomoo · 11/02/2014 15:09

I love mine but I know they don't look good on me.

I think for them to look good the leg has to be thinner than the boot. So you have to be stick thin and wear them with leggings. I am neither, although at least I don't wear them with my bootleg jeans tucked in like I have seen some older ladies doing.
