Long hair to pixie cut, yey or ney?

ToPixieOrNotToPixie · 08/02/2014 15:26

Have name changed, fed up of my long hair weighing me down, it's not in great condition any more, I never get a chance to dry and style it and I wear it up in a messy bun every single day.
So considering going for the chop, have an appt booked for Monday, do I go for a pixie cut and will it be easier to manage (have two under three and NO time for myself ever!!) anyone ever regretted doing this?

Thanks for the hair donation link burnishedsilver will definitely do that, what a great idea.
Loving the Anne Hathaway and Natalie Portman but I may cop out and leave it a bit longer at the front!
What sort of styling will I need to do?
I love this cut but I think I'm being influenced by the drop dead gorgeousness of the woman!
Thanks for the lovely compliments, I am heavily eye bagged and hormonally spotty up close but I shall accept your compliments graciously anyway Wink Thanks

And as a side note, isn't Pinterest amazing?! Have spent aaaaages looking at hairstyles on there, again all amazing looking women with perfectly styled hair swaying me somewhat, loving the punky short hairstyles that seem to be in fashion just now but not sure I'm cool enough to carry it off.

You have lovely elfin features and beautiful long slender neck, a pixie cut would look fab on you, pretty feathered side bits and away you go. Just don't do a baldrick! Grin go for gentle layering.

rockybalboa · 08/02/2014 16:27

Oooh yes, that style in the photo you just posted would look great on you. That does look like it involves styling though? And re donating your hair, my friend and her husband have done it. I can find out who to/how if you like?

CockBollocks · 08/02/2014 16:47

longer will require more styling to avoid the permanent bed head look!!

PrimalLass · 08/02/2014 16:49

Mine is thick and wavy and would stick out that short. I would still have to dry and style it. The difference is that it would be dry in a couple of minutes.

It would really suit you though.

MarvellousMechanicalMouseOrgan · 08/02/2014 16:57

Mine is half way between the Anne Hathaway one and the Shannyn Sossamon one you linked to. It's wavy, but not as thick as yours. To style it I put smoothing stuff on it and clip the fringe in place while it drys, that's all.

You have great cheekbones and a high forehead so I'd think either would be lovely. I feel much cooler with short hair, although sometimes I miss swishing about. Grin

nicelyneurotic · 08/02/2014 17:00

Usually I say 'NO! Don't do it' to people wanting to cut off their long lovely hair, but, I agree that it will really suit you and you'll look fab!

If you do it please post an 'after' picture!

hermionepotter · 08/02/2014 17:22

I agree - normally would say no but in your case I think yes it will really suit you Smile

Cocolepew · 08/02/2014 17:34

I always say yes because I have short hair, but you really would suit it with your little face Grin.
I have the picture you posted on my Pinterest board, I'd like it but I think your hair would need a bit if a wave in it. Mines too straight.

hovo · 08/02/2014 18:42

Go for it. It'll really suit you. You've got such a lovely natural beauty look about you.

Yes, Pinterest is amazing Grin

ToPixieOrNotToPixie · 08/02/2014 18:55

You're all great, don't think I've ever had so many compliments Blush been feeling a bit crap about myself lately as well so am really excited to be doing something for me, have grown out of my long hair.....time for a new chapter!
Will post a photo on Monday, wish me luck. Thank you again!

If you've got thick wavy hair, you could go for something like this - so gamin and pretty, think it would really suit you.

Alternatively have a year of chops and experiment. You can work back from shoulder to jaw to pixie – radical new look each time.

ToPixieOrNotToPixie · 08/02/2014 19:27

I LOVE Audrey Tautou's hair like that but she is absolutely stunning, not sure it would look that good on me!
Have a selection of styles to show the hairdresser so we can decide which would suit my hair best.
JoanRanger I cut my hair shoulder length a couple of years ago and ended up still wearing it up as it was such a faff to style. Also as my hair is quite thick it went in a triangular shape if left unstyled, I'm opting for an easier life!

I love the short styles but don't be fooled into thinking they're easier to manage than long hair.

I went from short to long a couple of years ago. Each morning I had to dampen my hair to sort out the "bed head" look. Definitely took longer than scraping back into a bobble.

I had also forgotten about the more frequent visits to the hairdressers as the style soon grew out.

I loved my short hair but for the reasons above I'm now in the growing out phase.

Cocolepew · 08/02/2014 20:41

I think Audreys style would look good if you have a natural wave.

Cocolepew · 08/02/2014 20:45

Dont be going by the faces, I have this short cut but look nothing like Michelle Williams, worse luck.

I think you are pretty and could definitely work short hair. I went from very long to very short two years ago and at the time, I wanted the drama, or the impact. If that makes sense. I know some people were shocked but I wanted that! I just wanted to go short and I did and I loved it. It's shoulder length now.

I say go for it! It's nice to have a big change every now and then.

ToPixieOrNotToPixie · 10/02/2014 07:55

Right, today's the day! I'm wavering slightly now after the needing to style lots comments, but surely it can't take that long to style if there isn't that much hair?! And I think I like the bed head look [deluded emoticon]
Coco, I love that Michele Williams cut that is on my list of pictures as well, you're so right about me going by the face though, I seem to be imagining myself morphing into a beautiful Hollywood actress.....you're telling me that's not going to happen?
Appointment is at lunchtime, will post a photo when I get a chance this evening (don't have a smartphone) and I'll try not to cry at the hairdressers if I hate it Wink

I'm late to the thread but you absolutely will look fab with a pixie cut, you've got the face for it. Good luck today. Looking forward to after pictures.

buttercrumble · 10/02/2014 10:41

Hi I posted earlier, you will look fabulous . The picture you posted off Pinterest I have have on my short hair board, good luck and post an updated picture when you have been it's going to look great Smile

bottersnike · 10/02/2014 11:48

Looking forward to seeing the pixie cut. I'm doing the same thing this week, going from really long to really short. Can't wait! :)
Last time I had short hair I found it really easy to manage, just leave to dry a bit, put some waxy goop in, and hey presto! a hairstyle. So much easier than brushing and controlling long hair.

Cocolepew · 10/02/2014 12:05

Well no film star looks here, but you never know!
Looking forward to seeing the picture Smile

LizLemongrass · 10/02/2014 12:07

I want to see picture now! Maybe you're at the HD now.

It's only hair! my hairdresser wanted to do the cop out mumsy bob on me noddyholder and I said NO. no half-measures. Go short! I was glad, at the time I needed it. I'd had long hair for years and I didn't want to be one of those women whose identity was all wrapped up in her long hair. so, now it's two years on and it's nearly shoulder length already so this time, for a big change, I'm going to go a few shades lighter.
